^Nelson thanks for the info.

What camera body are you using?

I owned the original chrome edition of the MIR 1B Russian Lens 37mm f2.8 w

It's called the MIR-1 Brussels Grand Prix Edition.

To my knowledge the newer MIR 1B is a good lens, but the original chrome smokes it in sharpness. I tested the two together when I had them both in my possession.

Thanks for the info

The 50/1.4 Nikkor is very nice though like most fast lenses it is soft/with CA at 1.4----mostly gone by F2 all gone by 2.8....

here's a favorite....
QUOTED IMAGE

Thanks

Is this what you mean by soft. I took a quick picture at work from the new FD adapter I just received.

since my dad gave me some of his old gear I figured i would try and use it.

these are the two adapters I have. The one on the right did nothing for me. The new i just received on the left i can use.

I want to recommend an AF lens that works great in MF...not vintage...but...
it's actually more reliable than the 55/3.5 or 55/2.8 Micro-Nikkors in that the focusing barrel is less likely to get dry/frozen...it is pricy, but since I got it real cheap, you might too....
....the Micro Nikkor AF 60/2.8 that I got cheap because its AF/MF had been glued to MF....
The focusing barrel is dampened enough to qualify in my book for MF and it is a very good lens...

It's nice to be able to use the older lenses on the new dSLRs, but at current prices, I'll buy the new EF lenses. There's no advantage in it, unless you already own the vintage lenses. Now I'll wait for someone to say "they don't make them like they used to".

For me, Canon's 35L and 50L don't seem to have quality that matches the high price tag. At least from what I've read. I'll wait for their updates, and live with vintage manual for a while (or just buy Zeiss).

Any idea if I will run into mirror issues by slapping an old Pentax 50mm 1.7, with m42 adapter, on a 1d? I figure I will give it a shot as it was in my dads old camera bag.

You shouldn't have a problem with the 1D due it's smaller mirror.

eff - Pentax mounts have this long bayonet sticking out the back of them - my Pentax-M 135mm would have speared my mirror on my 5D. Be careful! :)

So I ordered an m42 adapter but can't attached the lens to the adapter. The adapter can be twisted onto my 1D but wanted to know if this is the right adapter?

that doesn't look like an m42 mount lens...it normally screws on...so it's simple...i think your lens is newer...from googling, i'd guess a pentax k mount..you probably need this

You've got what looks like a Pentax-M lens, which will take a Pentax K mount to EOS - I own one, hehe I'll sell it to you for $10 and you don't have to wait for the month of shipping it takes to come from China :)

But see how that thing sticks out like a bayonet? I'd make absolutely sure it doesn't come near your glass...
