I picked up a Strobist kit for my 550ex. What a difference the lighting makes!

Very nice indeed. I love how the wb allows the ambient lit wood to be so cool because its in the shade. Meanwhile, she is lit with daylight balanced strobe, giving her a nice warm feeling. (I made myself a note to play with this in the future)
