Even at 420mm you must have done a lot of cropping on this shot, yet look how sharp and detailed! This is the first aircraft in flight photo I've seen with the 1Dx, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your kind comments. The image was not taken at an air show and I was therefore closer than you may expect. You are right though, a small amount of cropping was carried out to position the aircraft in the frame.

As far as the 1dx goes, no complaints at all. It has coped with everything from landscapes to 200mph jet model aircraft. Like the one below.

Not my usual subjects, but was up in a mates apartment during Riverfire held last weekend, and rattled these couple off. Shot with a 1Dmk4 and an old 300mm F4 I rented for the weekend. Would love to hear your thoughts, as this is something I would like to do more of!

ps: please excuse my complete lack of knowledge to what these aircraft are actually called (if you could point it out it would be much appreciated!)

Yes, on Saturday. Stayed out there the whole day. Did a walk-about Saturday evening going through the pits and walking the ramp. By then I was toast.
