Just because I was out shooting earlier with my 28mm f/1.8, Having tons and tons of fun of course but it also had be stop for a moment or two to ponder some things..

I really find my 28mm f/1.8 "fun" on my 7D, and I cant help but wonder if it would be more "fun" on full frame, I really love getting really close with it, I love the somewhat distorted perspective it gives things (Despite being on a crop) and I keep thinking "Gee i wish i could exaggerate and distort the perspective more..maybe get some more in, but throw it all out of focus to give an interesting look

IE like this:

I also look at my lens lineup and realize that.. well as much as i love the 15-85, Its collecting dust at the moment, My primes are lighter and more compact and so they're getting taken out more, Im basically keeping it around "in case i need wide" or "in case i go somewhere" So i am open to the idea of selling it off

So lets say, working with what I have now (7D, 28mm f/1.8, 15-85, 70-200 f/4L IS, 100mm f/2.8L and a 35mm f/2 im selling no matter what) What are my options to get more of this "fun" distorted perspective im playing with?

I have two options i think.. get a UWA zoom or get a FF camera... But im open to suggestions.. Lets say the budgets around $650 or so, Or what id get for the 15-85, but flexible enough within reason

Full Frame, or Sigma 20mm f1.8. If you dont care to loose the DoF blur, yeah, a UWA will be fun! Sigma 8-16mm for the most extreme!

Go out with the 15-85mm and use it as a 15mm f3.5 prime. You might be surprise!

Personnaly I am waiting to see the sigma 35mm f1.4 before switching full frame. As a hobbyist, I cannot justify the 24L or 35L.

Canon 6D | S35mm f1.4 | 135mm f2 The rest: T3i, 20D, 15mm f2.8, 15-85mm, 24mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, 90mm f2.8 macro, 55-250mm.
So long and thanks for all the fish

You're a FF shooter waiting to happen. Get a 5Dc from B&H's used dept. They're going for between $630 and $750, iirc.

Rokinon 8.5mm fisheye is hella fun. Breaks the monotony of any photographic series by introducing ultra distortion and ultra dof into the mix. And ultra sharp and cheap. FF with 28mm is wide. So you will use it differently than with crop.

I've loved my 28 1.8 at least 87% more the moment I used it on a FF body for the first time. Ironically that was during a very stressful wedding, but the couple ended up loving the shots.
Crop simply doesn't have a 17mm f/1.1 (or whatever f-stop) to get the wide angle/shallow DOF effect. It's wonderful.

In other words: do it! no time like the present to go for a 5D2.

That mum looks nice. You can get pretty weird perspective with an ultra-wide.You might try renting one to try it out. I like my Tokina 12-24F4. The focal lengths are good for travel or tight interiors.
Another option is a short macro lens, like the Tokina 35f2.8 macro lens. You might like it.
It is only suitable for the crop format, but you have a crop camera.
I don't print large, so a crop will work fine for me. The only thing that would move me to full frame is the high ISO performance right now. I plan to wait to see what the new generation of Canon sensors can do in crop format.

Wouldnt it be better to sell the 7D and 15-85 and nab a 5DII

Sirrith wrote in post #15081844 (external link)
Why not just use the 15-85 at the 15mm end?

It doesnt focus quite close enough at 15 to give the same effect, I could try it again but i think i tried recently

That is exactly why im asking this, the 5D2 is a really hard to pass up and ignore deal right now which is why im putting thought into it... (Of course Dizzle and the people in the Nikon thread have me also contemplating getting a D600 and going to the dark side, but i think that might be a bit extreme...)

Its not that i hate my 7D, Sure Id love better quality at ISO800+ (not that i think its bad but hey, Better is never bad) but i dont go above 1600 very often (Not cause i think the 7D sucks at 3200 or 6400, its just that i really dont -need- them very often with my f/1.8 and f/1.4 primes) 8fps is useful, as is the buffer for shooting insects and stuff, But then again i frequently bolt a flash on, which cant quite keep up with 8fps shooting.. At least..not very long! Id love to have a bigger viewfinder, As i frequently work at odd/weird angles which means im not holding my eye up to it and straight on, So giving a bit more "leeway" so to speak is helpful...

The 5DII is an amazing camera but i always hear the AF sucks... And I do really like having fast accurate AF without focus+recompose.. I also lose my wireless flash trigger, Which i actually do use for macro shooting (The spider shots in my library recently i lit by laying my 580EXII in the dirt pointed at the subject and triggering them with the wireless flash trigger, cables or my macro speedlite would have gotten in the way and ruined their webs and stuff...)

35mm f/2 has icky bokeh when doing this kind of thing, Its fine so long as the subject stays a bit farther back lol Thats why im selling the 35mm f/2...

ANYWAYS more thoughts.. Looking at the ultrawide zooms and their MM:

Canon 28mm f/1.8 (For comparison): 1:5.5

Tokina 11-16: 1:11.6
Tokina 12-24: 1:8
Sigma 8-16: 1:7.8
Sigma 10-20 f/3.5: 1:6.6
Canon 10-22: 1:6

For fun, Compare to FF UWAs:

Canon 17-40 f/4L: 1:4
Canon 16-35 f/2.8L II: 1:4.5
Sigma 12-24 II: 1:6.4

Wonder, why is it the APS-C wides have such lower MMs?

-edit- I think i did decide on one thing, I dont think the 5DII will work out... All I can think of is my 30D's AF system and I was never that fond of it... I'm thinking that making the switch to FF right now would be a move made out of impatience, No matter how much i like the idea I cant help but feel I should have waited for a 5DIII instead...

Why is the AF hard for the stuff you shoot? I don't see anything that moves.:). Just rent 5d and say 24/35L and do the same shots and you will be singing different tune. More money sure. But is only money.:)
