Thanks! My little guy was just born the 18th... just over a week old... so, he's been the subject of all of my photos lately..

Congrats!!! Enjoy snapping away, our bubba is almost 6 months old and the Sig 85 has been awesome! My latest shots:

Sigma 85mm @ f/2 on my 5D3 with a speedlite in a shoot-through umbrella camera left. I'm currently like 6 shoots behind on processing, but while i'm waiting for a gallery to rip, i'm visiting :)

Love the lighting and sharpness here. I just find the negative space on the right distracting. I'd crop some of it out, maybe go square?

I don't mean to be rude but where is the focus, and why?

Lovely shot!

Does anyone find with this lens, that as the subject distance gets to 15ft+ @ f1.4 things start getting very soft?
Not out of focus soft, but in-focus just really soft?

Thanks

I've been using this at the club I shoot at for a while now, to get some image variety vs the UWA staple shots. The AF isn't lightning fast, but it's decent, and the accuracy has been exceedingly good, especially considering the conditions.

This is the lens that makes me wish I had a FF. 85 on a crop, there is no way I can hand hold 1/50th :(

It's great daylight, but I struggle low light to get a good handheld shutter. 1/160th is about right to get it for me.

Use a flash! For club & a lot of flash photography, the shutter duration controls the ambient light, it's not the main light component in these shots. The club is pretty dark, which is why I have such a long duration even at relatively high ISO.
Also, if you can shoot left eyed (at least for some shots), this technique (external link) is really handy when you want a longer shutter.
