I noticed today that Amazon UK /France/Germany are not selling the G1X , that Amazon USA seem to be holding very few and Amazon Japan are discounting their 5 copies by 29% to £420.
I wonder if the supply has dried up or they're just dropping a poor seller.

I think it might be the opposite. Demand is drying up for this camera. Given all the latest announcements for bigger sensors in small and more flexible cameras it is no surprise that the G1X is struggling.

unless its improved with new firmware, no wonder if demand is drying. it could be capable camera with faster and more reliable focusing. should have chosen OM-D kit myself, but as expression goes, you get what you pay for.

It is tough to beat the G1X for IQ for the $$$ in a P&S.

It does have a few serious problems with the G15 and RX100 chewing on it from below and the OMD M5 just above it.

I think the G1X was a Canon market probe, that is to see how well a camera of this type would do. I think that is also the only reason you are seeing the G15, because the G1X did not do so well. So indeed, its demise may be upon us.
Who knows ??. For some reason Lens Mate said they Would Not!, be producing a filter/lens adapter for the G1X

I'm beginning to agree with the "market probe" explanation for the G1X, http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …09/g15-how-bout-that.html (external link) . It makes no sense to me that Canon would continue to offer G1X, G15, EOS-M and euthusiast's EOS-M along with the S-110. In fact, I expect considerable shake-ups in Canon's product lines in the future.

Amazon isn't the seller any more ; the stock is held by resellers.

Have I misunderstood you as I have a LensMate adaptor for the G1X? It's shown on the LensMate website.

I reckon the continuation of the G1x will depend more on the success of the EOS-M and not the G15.

There are probably a couple of enhancements that they may be able to do on the G1x in shorter shutter lag, faster equivalent single point focussing and possibly a 24-120 lens range.

The camera really came onto the market aiming at DSLR users who wanted the large sensor with good image quality in a compact portable form........they achieved that without damaging there G12 sales too much.

If they brought out a mark 2 with the above enhancements then I would still buy over the rather expensive Sony and Fuji top CSC models.

Lens Mate stated they would wait, and see what the volume of sales were. So maybe they decided to produce it, that was sometime back I saw the non-production notice.

Lensmate makes a filter adapter to mount on the end of the lens -- similar to the Canon filter adapter, see http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …g1x-lensmate-adapter.html (external link) . It was a long rigid tubular adapter for attaching conversion lenses, http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …ngle-conversion-lens.html (external link), that Lensmate said they would not be making.

The continuation of the small sensor G series seemed like a given, it fills a need because not everyone wants to spend $800 on the G1X. I do think the G1X was an experiment, but it's one I hope they improve upon and continue.

What I want in a G2X:

MKIII sensor scaled down to crop
Better focus speed
Better video and audio
Bigger/Faster L Quality lens (1/2 to 1 stop) and 24mm equiv on wide side
Make it look better

Keep the price below $1250.

I want a Fuji Pro competitor...
