seems like people store the camera body without lens in the smaller cases. I only carry 3 lenses, so for my it's not unusual to have a lens on both bodies. Thoughts?

I can not fit everything in my 1450 case unless the body has one of the smaller lenses mounted on it. I usually leave the 17-55 mounted. If I do want to fit the camera in the case with the 70-200 mounted I have to leave the nested hoods out. I have no issue leaving the lenses mounted, but I did add some foam under the lens to support the weight.

I've used the case on 2 shoots now, and so far it's ok. I have to switch lenses periodically during the shoot anyway. Where I can see this being left in the car is on a beach. I just hate sand and switching lenses.

I'm looking to buy a Peli case and there's a guy locally selling a 1560 for a good price. I'm studying abroad atm and was wondering if anyone had experience with a 1560 as carry on. I'll be flying Frontier Airlines from Montana (via Denver where my cousin lives) to NYC, where I'm on a flight from British Airways to Europe. I don't expect BA to be a pain, because in my experience they're very lenient about carry-on, but I'm a little woried about Frontier. Any help?

Below is my 1650 in use. Thinking about getting another of the same size for the rest of my gear. Expensive and heavy but really worth the investment.

Damn... That's some serious fire-powa! I also own a Ranger RX Speed AS :). Can I see some of your work?

They'd have to be very lenient. The 1510's the largest Pelican that's consistently acceptable as carry-on (assuming the plane's not full). The 1560 is only carry-on for AirTran and JetBlue (external link) (on their Airbus fleet).

Ya, I have a 1560. I cant see taking it on a plane as a carry on, even if they let me.

Even with the size leniency, will it still fit the weight limits? I have this dilemma coming up with my international Luftansa flight which only allows 8kg of carry on for economy ;(

True, but the cases themselves weigh a lot. For example, the Pelican 1514 w/dividers weights over 15 lb if I am not mistaken.

if you want light, a hard case is not exactly a good option. Nylon backpacks are probably less than half the weight.

True, that's what I ended up with. Pity that even international flights are so stingy about carry-on weight limits.
