Looking to buy a pelican case.. need tips/suggestions.

I've said it before. Why no 12% grey or 18% grey case?

I use the Pelican case because both the camera shops and the gun shops in my area stock them. I can understand the points made by others about wanting a different case. Regardless of brand, I wouldn't want to carry anything larger than my Pelican 1450 case on a regular basis. I can fit all of my normally carried gear in the 1450 but there is no room to spare. I was keeping all of my cases black, but will be sticking to the silver/gray going forward. The silver/gray looks good, and is a little easier to distinguish than black.

I also like that HPRC backpack case, but not for $340. Porta Brace has what looks to be the same case with a padded interior and different straps on sale for $300:

Adorama's Flashpoint SealTite is another affordable option. I would have gone with them if they come with padded dividers.

Another vote for the Pelican 1514 here. Dont mess with the rest, just get the best and be done with it

i vote for pelican 1500 because it is within the carry on dimensions of more airlines than the 1514 and also because it will fit your gear without being overkill. below is my post with photos of my 1504 case.

well, the 1514 is within limits, and has room for 2 bodies, with grips, 2 flash units, a 24-70, 70-200, and 85mm. plus a few more spots that have a teleconverter, and my trigger vase. anything smaller, and I'm leaving gear at home.

And the 1514 has wheels so there's no need to carry it, just pull it along on its wheels

I saw the Seahorse SE-920 case at Fry's Electronics yesterday. The size I was looking at was similar to the Pelican 1514 carry on, it was listed as the max carry on size. It appeared to be well made, but about 5 lb lighter than the Pelican 1514. It came with layered foam, 3 layers about 2.5" thick each, and cost $129. I don't think it is as tough as the Pelican, but it appeared to have more usable interior space.

+1 on the 1514. I do not regret spending the money one bit. when it's time to go shoot, it packs and rolls to the truck and around the shoot area quite well. like above, get the best and don't mess with the rest. my peli 1200 got tossed, stepped on, caught it turret gears, rained on, eaten off of, drug around Afghanistan with a rebel xsi inside and both case and camera are still being used today.

just ordered 1510!! i feel like it'll be a good investment. thanks guys/gals!
