One of the whole reasons I got into photography/DSLRs was so I could take nice pictures of my future kids. P&S cameras are too slow and limiting in my opinion.

But, if you aren't using it for that purpose and it is just sitting around, I'd probably sell it. The longer you just hold onto it and don't use it, the less you'll be able to sell it for.

As mentioned by others, there is no sense in holding on to your gear if you don't use it, however don't sell yourself short on the value. I can't blame you for considering the Sony RX100 though, I tried it and I think it is a fantastic P&S.

Cheers,
Laurent

Who photographs the memorable moments with the 7 yr old? Because a P&S might not be fast enough for some of those shots. I don't shoot daily or for a living but I have it to capture the moments with my son

I bought it new and I used to shoot alot of landscape and wildlife pics when I was single, after getting married and an active 7 year old litterally I have Zero time. The technology and software these days it is hard for me to justify carrying around this camera when I can have something half the size on my hip as well as take up less space on flights while traveling. Getting ready to post on Craigslist this afternoon for 1600 though and use the funds for something new...maybe another G15 not sure yet though.

I'll gladly take that set-up off your hands for $1600.

As others have mentioned, if it's likely to be collecting dust and losing value every day, get rid of it. No point in keeping such an expensive paper weight at home.
