Hello everyone, I'm very excited for the Miramar show this year - it will be my first time. I just noticed that most preferred box seats were already taken. So, I went ahead and got my tickets yesterday before its too late.

If you have any Miramar Air Show pics you can share please post them here and please let me know where are you located when you took the shot (Chalet, grandstand, box, and etc.). If you can also share some tips would be appreciated.

I just purchased the matinee but thinking about getting the twilight show as well. Not sure if I should get another box seat or one of the flight deck chalets. :)

Also, not sure what telephoto lens I should take... Choices are: 70-200mm 2.8 IS II + 1.4x II ext, 100-400mm, 400mm 2.8 IS.

I only have one wide angle lens so I guess this is out of the question.

Any input would be appreciated.

Take your 100-400..leave the 400mm 2.8 at home.

Well, did anyone attend? Any photos to share?

I really wanted to go, but due to my work schedule and weather concerns, I didn't.

Hi,

I went Saturday and still recovering from sunburn :)

Sorry to hear that you weren't able to go though... maybe next year :)

Good shots, Trek_203, but they'd get more attention if they were in their own share images thread in Transportation

Rub salt in the wound, why don't ya? ;)

Your shots are excellent, nothing short of outstanding. I expecially like number 3.

May I ask what body/lens combo you used?

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for the nice compliments! I used 1DMIII and 100-400 combo. Had a great time and will do it again next year!

Next year is going to be interesting to see how the weather holds up. The show next year is in mid-October.

^^ Trek, very nice. BTW I viewed your flickr photos, they are excellent! I especially like your shots around LA.

I had planned on going to Miramar both days, but I'm going to the Apple Valley air show on Saturday. One of my favorites, Rob Harrison, will be performing. Maybe the last time I'll ever see him, since he's retiring soon. I'm renting a 500 f4 from Samy's just to capture Rob in flight.

At Miramar, if you see a goofy looking guy lugging around a 500 f4 and 300 f2.8, that's me!

Is the Friday show any different than the Sat/Sun show?
My guess is that it's a lot less crowded on Friday.

I'm with you on Friday being less crowded..As for the difference,i dont think so being that the schedule is the same all 3 days and Saturday has the exception of the awesome twilight show!! BUT,the only difference i know there will be will be the weather..FRiday is looking like it'll be pretty gloomy :(
