The one lens you will ALWAYS get in with is the 200mm 2.8 L (black). Good luck getting in with a white 70-200mm 2.8.

i'd get in with my 70-200mm.

team policy. check yours:

The following items are prohibited: camera equipment that may interfere with others' enjoyment of the match (tripods, professional lenses - larger than 200 mm, etc.)

I don't mind the white lenses as long as no one wants to come over to "try" it out. I guess this can happen with any big lens.

I bought the Sigma 70-200 instead of one of the Canons because of the color. However, I will soon be getting the 70-200 2.8 IS, but I'd much prefer it in black.

It is simply a brilliant marketing ploy by Canon. Anybody who knows anything about cameras and sees on his TV all those white lenses at any ball game or other event knows exactly what brand the cameras are.

...AND Sony.
Sony has some whites too. ;)

Why is there no option for "I really couldn't care less." White's nice, and so is black...quite frankly, when it comes to photography, the colour of my lenses is the least of my worries :)

I don't care for my lens to show up more than it would if it was black as many have stated. White also makes the lens look bigger than it is.

White lenses deflect the suns rays much more effectively, so living in a hot country it is actually a bonus.

I live in southern Japan, where in the summer, it hits 44°C+ (111°F+) and the above statement is sooooo true!

I own some black lenses, too, and my big whites really are much cooler to touch in the summer when I'm out shooting.

Regards,
Simon

I have noticed you get a crap load of attention while using the white lenses in public. I think people will look at any big lens and wonder what that person is doing with the lens, but when it's an unusual color like white it really really stands out, especially when they are so large with a large front element glass.

When i would go around the east coast with my 75-300mm the only people who really looked at me where small children in strollers and little kids. With the big 100-400mm lens, 1/4 people will stare at me for atleast a few seconds while taking a photo, and about 1/10 to 1/20 will make a comment to me or the person they are with about my lens. It's actually quite annoying and brings a lot of attention to myself which i hate, because i am a very private person that does not like attention brought to myself.

No one asked me how much the 75-300mm lens is, i would get the price tag question all the time with the 100-400mm.

Would i get less attention and less questions if my 100-400mm was black? I absolutely think so...

I am seriously considering getting some kind of stickers to camo the lens though

To try it out...permanently! Because the bad guy knows it's an expensive "white" lens probably on an expensive camera...

Wouldn't putting a camo covering on the lens make it look more like a hunting implement and make the attention even worse?

The white's a mild turnoff for me, but I feel self-conscious shooting with a big lens in public whether it's black, white or pink. Since I do a lot of my shooting on backpacking trips, though, it's not a concern for me.

A white body!! you would have to wear gloves so as not to make it dirty. The white lens is a status symbol, thats why you own a Canon because you will settle for only the best. Even if you are a complete dufus at photography everybody looks at that white monster and says "now he knows what he is doing".
They look impressive white, because they are impressive.
There is always spray paint!!

I actually wish more of the lenses were white and also wish you could get a white body. I'm shooting in 90-100 degree weather a lot in the summer and the equipment gets uncomfortably hot.

Also annoying that you can't get white lens hoods except for white lenses too. I suppose I could spray paint but that would just look tacky.

Its a camera, not a fashion accessory. I've never understood the angst about white lenses. I mean if they were pink and they somehow threatened your manhood that would be different. But its a tool.
