I heart it.

I rented a a 70-200 and took it out to South Beach for walking around. A bit challenging with the 70mm minimum but do-able.

Lots of comments, sometimes even a conversation starter lol.

For those claiming that photography gear is not a fashion accessory but a tool, have you ever tried taking pictures with a white lens in a public place?
it takes about 3 seconds until someone reaches you with a dumb question...

Whom are you taking pictures here today? where will it be shown? when? why? how?

I think that Canon should be offering both colors. Just let the user choose.

Me, personally, I think those white lenses are ugly as well....

I dont like the white lens either. Sticks out to much. I dont like the shear size of a the larger dslr's to begin with. Brings you way to much attention. Nature of the beast I guess.

Yes, I use mine in public places all the time. I get dumb questions regardless of the color of my lens. Its not like they dont ask questions when you have a large camera with a grip and a big black lens hanging off the front.

I'm not a fan of the attention that the white lenses bring. I prefer to be discrete when possible.

Artificial fluorite is fragile when it gets very hot. The first lenses that were white were Canons fluorite lenses because Canon was having trouble with fluorite in the old 300 2.8 (black) cracking in the heat. Now its a marketing tool but there is a reason for it. So if you have the 200 2L, 300 2.8, 400 2.8 or any of the other lenses that are white its to keep the fluorite from getting to hot. Be glad they are white.

Personally, I would pay extra to get the long tele lenses with black color.

how about you guys?

Then pay more for Nikon and "problem" solved. Complaining about the color of canon lenses is like complaining about the color of the sky. You have to change because the sky won't :D.

Bought my first white L (70-300L) a few months ago (I own two black L's). I even put a tripod ring on it. I thought sure Wifey would finally break down and ask about it, but she hasn't said a word. The last time I told her about a lens purchase was years ago when I bought my used 85 f1.8. That was $318. She was shocked at how expensive that was. I stopped talking about lens purchases after that.:p:D

the problem i have is that all my current lenses are black, so if i suddenly appear with a white lens my wife knows I've spent money on new equipment. She doesn't seem to notice the odd addition to my collection if is black. I have to borrow or rent white lenses.

Wrap that rascal and she'll never know. :)

I hear comments all the time, and it doesn't bother me at all. Other people's perceptions of my equipment does not affect my ability to take photos, so why should I care? If someone asks me politely about the equipment, I will give them a polite answer. If they are not polite, I simply ignore the person.
