Btw, I've read there should be a red refurbished dot somewhere - I can't find it. Where should be this red dot on refurbished lenses, cameras, flashes?

On my refurbished body there's a pin hole on the serial number sticker.

On my refurb lenses there's a red permanent marker dot on the metal mount near one of the screws.

Thank you very much, now I can see. A pin hole on the serial number sticker is tiny.

Just called Canon and cancelled my 70-300L order - which was on backorder. Voice on the other end could give no expected date for delivery. I'll wait for the end-of-the-year rebates and buy new.

fyi, mine was on backorder too (i think i posted earlier.) the lady that took my call also didn't give a date. but luckily mine did arrive about a week or 2 ago.

the 70-300l i got was in near brand-new shape. not a single scratch, and all the rings turn like new. seems to work pretty darn well. appears very sharp.

also got a 10-22. it however was quite dirty. there was quite a bit of dust on the glass, and in some places around the edge i couldn't reach. clearly it has been used and not cleaned. the exterior looked brand new though. took it to vegas / zion and it was very sharp. i'm going to take it back to canon for a cleaning, but otherwise it was well worth the money.
