I just got my 5D mark III a couple of months ago and I've shot a few things such as portraits, Cyclocross race and now a Track cycling race in a velodrome. I'm must not getting good results with my camera. The photos seem to be pretty noisy at relatively low ISO's 1600's and the sharpness just isnt there with my 24-70 F2.8 L now this is all comparing shots with my 5D Mark II that just had that nice crispness to it. My 5D Mark III is giving me poor results and I'm not sure if it's a setting or if I have a bad copy. HALP!

Thanks

Mmm - you'll need to post some examples of what you are referring to here, complete with EXIF, for people to try to assist you to see if a camera issue or a user issue.

I don't see much noise but that is pretty blurry, do you have focus issues on other lenses as well?

At 1/125, it's not fast enough to freeze cyclist. Take it outside and take a series of shots of drive by cars with speed at least 1/500 or 1/1000 and see if AI Servo is working as it should.

Thats motion blur not an issue with focus. If you take a close look at the wheels on all the bikes, you see motion blur.

Well, you need faster shutter speed. This issue is not about focusing. I think the photo looks good at the 1/125 shutter speed

try the same setting on 5D2, I'm sure your images sharpness is the same like 5D3
ISO1600? 5D2 is noiser than 5D3

By looking at your image, 1/125 is not enough to freeze the cyclist

I was panning WITH the cyclist and had my 580exII firing too, so it should have frozen the image a bit. Also when zoomed in a bit more the noise was considerable. And I really think the lens needs to be micro adjusted on the 5D mark III, I've never had to do that before.

At f8, it doesn't matter if it's MA or not...everything should be in focus if the shutter speed is fast enough. Even if the flash was fired, it's still not fast enough to free everything.

Go try it in good light for a more valid confirmation.

Try opening up to f4, ISO 3200 and a much faster SS...

Also, you're underexposing, which makes noise worse.
