Doing it due to a lack of money is a dumb excuse.

Doing it to use Leica lenses on a Canon body, though, might be worthwhile, if you can spare a 5D2/5D3.

I wonder if he can he also make Canon and Leica lenses work on a D800?

it's a Canon 5Dmk2 that's been modified for Leica M mount lens designed by Canon.

He should have tried with an EOS-M camera, it would have been more usefull.

He doesn't have money for a Leica, but he has enough money to destroy a $2000 camera body for experimental use of a $6000 lens?

It looks like he saved a considerable amount of money and got a significantly better camera for his uses.

I bet video shot at f1.0 is something to see. No amount of money spent on Leica bodies will let him do that.

It looks hideous, but props to him for doing it - even if it's more proof-of-concept than feasible product. Not everything designed has to become a viable product, after all, how many 24-70mm lens patents did Canon file before it came out with the 24-70 II? ;)

How does this solve his problem today? Not to mention this camera wasn't even announced when he decided to solve the problem.

Seems silly to criticise the guy for creating a superior and cheaper camera to the expensive compromises that were available at the time. "No amount of money spent on Leica bodies will let him do that." Right now that is true. Hell, it might even be true in 6 months. I wouldn't bet on Leica's upcoming camera to have superior video to a 4 year old Canon, either. It might, but I wouldn't bet that it will.
