Hi,

My daughter dropped her 450d with the 18-55 EF-S kit lens the other day, luckily the camera survived the fall but sadly the lens came off worse. It seems we can now NOT attach lens to camera!!. On closer inspection the plastic flange bits that lock lens to camera, two have broken off.
I have noticed four tiny screws in that area, so my question is, is it possible to buy this broken part and is it held in by these four screws?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave.

I've done that for a quick fix after dropping my Rebel XT with the original kit lens. I would suggest having both the body and the lens checked out, just in case there are plastic pieces inside the body and the focus might be knocked off by the drop.

There are actually two more screws (on the side of the contacts).

Luckily that's a disposable lens. Its made out with a lot of plastic, hard to repair. You can get one on your local Craigslist for $80 new if desired. Good excuse for the wife in letting you upgrade to a better lens. :)

If the OP has the IS version of the lens, which is what would have been delivered with a 450D/XSi, that is not the appropriate mount.

Just pick up the IS version off the boards for around 70-80, it is worth it and not the hassle of hoping to fix the old one IMO
