Its looking like the family may be taking a quick family trip to Disney World. I am being setn for a 4 day event for work that will keep me occupied all day (7am-5pm). The wife and daughter plan to hit the parks while I am working I will then join them in the evening and they can show me the best each park has to offer. Anyways looking to rent a lens or two for the trip (I planned to rent to try out anyways so what better reason). I plan to get a UWA not sure which one yet either a Siggy or the Canon 10-22. But I thought I would also try out one of the 70-200's. Do you think I would be better off with the f2.8 over the f4 version, then should I splurge for the IS, there is a decent price difference between the 4 versions:

f4
f4 IS
f2.8
f2.8 IS II

The f4 is dirt cheap to rent, the f4 IS is well in my price range to rent as well as the f2.8, the f2.8 IS starts pushing what I want to spend.

Whats everyones thougths, we plan to spend a evening in each park with a full day in Epcot and half day at Animal Kingdom. The wife will just be using the PS during the day while I am working. She does not like using a big camera

I would not bother with renting a 70-200 for the trip, your 55-250 should be fine you whatever you want to shoot in that range. I am assuming your would be using it during the day as even the 2.8 is not fast enough for shots at night.

My recommendations to you would be to rent a wide angle as you have planned and also I a Sigma 30mm 1.4. Based on your signature, you don't really have anything fast enough to capture the night time parades or indoor rides. Maybe just put the money towards buying a 50mm 1.8. Your existing kit and a fast prime is what I used for many trips to Disney World. I just felt that 50mm was not wide enough, which is wide I use I got the 30mm instead.

My ultra wide and Sigma are the most used lenses on all my trips to Disney since I got them.

Thank you, and everyone else who has responded, I have ditched the idea of renting the 70-200. Plan to get a UWA and cant wait to play with one. I think I will also look into renting a nice fast prime. Maybe something in the 30mm range, as when I try to keep my 18-55 at 50 to see how I like it, it always has me backing up lol. Guess I will stick it at 30 and see how I like it while walking around town for the day.

I would check the sell forum here for both lenses, you can pick up used copies and sell them when you get back for close to what you paid for them. That is what I did when I brought my first ultra wide to Disney, the problem was I liked it so much that I kept it and did not sell it.

Doing that if you can afford to be out the cash for a bit and don't mind the work would allow you to get them before your trip and spend some time getting used to them before your trip.

Thats a great idea however I am not sure I can swing the cash to buy a used copy we booked a honeymoon cruise before we found out about this trip, we get back from the cruise two weeks before flying to Florida lol. I also know I would not be selling them after I got back, I have been eyeing a UWA for a while now so its at least a good reason to get one in my hands to try out

I echo the responses of purchasing / renting a UWA. A long lens does not get much work unless you are Animal Kingdom. A UWA gets you unique photos that most people will be envious of.

Been in the market for an UWA and with a trip coming up in a month, there's no better time.

Any opinions on whether the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is substantially better for lowlight/fireworks shots than the Canon 10-22 f/3.5?

Still trying to decide.

A wide aperture won't make a lick of difference for fireworks, however, the f/2.8 might be a bit more useful at night.

Tucked in a corner, out of the way of the people moving back and forth from the train at the Frontierland station is an old wood burning stove.

The Red Cross Stove company was in business from the mid 1800s until the 1930s. I suppose it's possible that Disney recreated an antique stove for the specific purpose of putting it in this spot.

Then again, this may be an authentic stove that is over 100 years old that thousands of people walk past every day. I wonder how many of them notice it...

hello folks!

I am very slowly getting into photography (meaning, not using a P&S anymore lol). As I have a gang of other activities that prevent me from indulging in emptying my wallet on this hobby, I have been limited in my gear progression.

anyways, I am going to Disneyland in December, and want to get some great shots with all the decorations (first time seeing in around Christmas time!!!). Please let me know what I should change/add/remove from my existing gear.

canon 28mm 1.8
canon 17-40mm 4.0

will this be enough to get me through? Its going to be a quick trip this year, so I only want to spend one full day/night snapping away, and then spending the rest of the time regressing to childhood lol.

You could probably do ok if you picked either the 28mm or the 50mm. I would take the 28 and the 17-40.
