Newer optics will always be better, and the price reflects it. Just look at 24-70 II
And 70-200 f/4 IS $1,199.00 on BH not $1000

It would be nice if Nikon also made a non-IS version at about $650-750 to give people some more choices. In that price range you can get a used 80-200 f/2.8, but I think offering a 70-200 f/4 with a newer optical design and faster SWM focusing would be a good idea.

Nikon did all they could to persuade me to jump ship. i've had several Nikon DSLRs in the past, but my primary body I used for 2 years was the 5d2. I wanted better DR and a good UWA lens...they failed this year in doing that. Went with d800 but wanted d600 -- only wasn't sure it would REALLy be announced. Can't lose hundreds on used d800 now to get a slightly cheaper new D600. Pointless. I really missed the 70-200/4.0 IS and now we're getting something close. Nikon has been on a roll and hopefully Canon will catch up. They were my first love, and you never forget those. Well, if your 1st love was a bad girlfriend, you'll forget her very fast. i certainly have.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Gotta love that NR admin guy. He has been very consistent with his announcements and came to reality. What a great year for Nikon users. :D

when will Nikon add a fast/quiet motor to the ancient 80-400 VR?
The AF on the current version is so painful.
