I have a slight autofocus issue with my 50mm. The autofocus does not always work, and I have to nudge it slightly to get it to work. I've nevered dropped it, so I may have a bad copy. It's a great lens optically though....

Has anyone tried this fix?

Yes, my 50mm has been stuck 3 or 4 times.... 2 of which I sent it off to Canon to fix, the 3rd and 4th times I fixed myself. At 120 bucks a pop it got old, so it became a fix it yourself project. You'll need something like watch repair tools to get those ity bitty screws undone.

That's the right link...

Fixed mine a few years ago rather than send it to Canon. Has worked flawlessly ever since. Folks will say it got bumped or something but I looked after mine pretty good, more a design fault than anything else imho.

Thanks, guys. I'll have to try it myself and be careful not to loose anything.

It's not a hard lens to take apart and put back together... For mine it was three screws attached to while plastic that ended up being too tight. After loosening them up, the focus worked great.

Good luck.

It's not so much a bad copy as just a Canon 50 1.4 ;) Sadly, it's pretty common with that lens...which is why I avoid them now.
