Just received my sigma 85mm 1.4 and did some test shots around the apartment. I must have got lucky because with 0 micro adjustment autofocus is spot on. Im very impressed initially. Im about to go get some real world shots and Ill post pics later.
Maybe sigma fixed their QC?

Is it sharp at all aperture? I had a copy before and it was tack sharp at 1.4 but then as soon as I close my aperture further it exhibited some shift.:o

I love my Sigma 85mm, definitely one of the best lenses I have used. My Sigma 17-50mm is fantastic as well. Sigma all the way! :)

you should also try focus on farther distance. mine was spot on for half body portraits and when I tried full body environmental portrait, it back-focused badly about .5 - 1 meter!

Congrats, I don't think you got lucky though...The Sigma 85/1.4 doesn't usually have any problems. It's a fantastic lens and really does rival the Canon 85LmkII. I've owned 2 that were great...I now have the L, but I have to say, the IQ is very similar...

Funny story about this lens. I bought it twice. Super fail on my part. I ordered it thursday, next day delivery. Ran downstairs to the apartment office like a kid on christmas when it arrived about noon on friday. Took it out of the box and proceeded to take cell phone pictures of my new lens.
After being amazed by the build quality I decided to put it on my camera. Ahhh crap! I t wouldn't fit. I tried another angle. WTF! No fit again. So I go back to my amazon box, and notice I ordered the Nikon version. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I quickly packaged it up and sent for return and had the next one by noon today. I cant believe I did that. I must have got too excited.
Anyway Im uploading pictures now. Not sure I got many above F2 lol. Ill have to post some updates when I do. I went to a brewery with the intention of taking a lot of pictures, but decided to drink instead.

Now that is a funny story, I have always kind of wanted to buy one of these. Reason why a Nikon shooter friend of mine has owned this lens and I have seen beautiful images from him. He also had the Nikon version I could not see the difference in his shots

Nothing personal here, but I can't stand when anyone falls back on the theory that "only people with problems post." It may be a TRUE statement, but it is also true of people buying Canon, Tamron, Nikon, etc, etc., therefore, it shouldn't be used an excuse. In relation to these other brands, Sigma as a disproportionally large number of complaints regarding AF, and QC in general.

Do it! I have no complaints thus far. There is a bit of purple fringing but I think that is normal with a fast prime

That seems to be the stigma and I was nervous about ordering this lens because of that. Not the case for me though. My sigma experience which is this lens and a fisheye has been vey good. Autofocus has a different noise that is annoying but IQ/focus seems that I have been "lucky"
