hello folks!

I am very slowly getting into photography (meaning, not using a P&S anymore lol). As I have a gang of other activities that prevent me from indulging in emptying my wallet on this hobby, I have been limited in my gear progression.

anyways, I am going to Disneyland in December, and want to get some great shots with all the decorations (first time seeing in around Christmas time!!!). Please let me know what I should change/add/remove from my existing gear.

canon 50mm 1.4
canon 28mm 1.8
canon 17-40mm 4.0

will this be enough to get me through? Its going to be a quick trip this year, so I only want to spend one full day/night snapping away, and then spending the rest of the time regressing to childhood lol.

The only thing I would add to this is maybe an ultra wide, it is a lot of fun in Disney. Also bring your tripod, shooting at the parks at night are one of my favorate things to do.

You could probably do ok if you picked either the 28mm or the 50mm. I would take the 28 and the 17-40.

Personally, I don't see a speedlight as being crucial at the parks. You can't use it on the rides, and unless it's gelled you're nighttime shots will look out of sorts as the lighting is intentionally very warm in the park. It can give you an opportunity for some cool long exposure fireworks portraits though.......
They are also quite handy if you do any of the character meals, like eating at the castle, doing the buffet at Crystal Palace, or maybe eating at Chef Mickey in the Contemporary.

Yup lighting is very warm, I was able to get lots of great pictures at one of the character breakfast's, only did one but it was bright enough inside no flash was needed.

I would say your ok without one.

Cant wait to try some long exposures when I get to Disneyworld, I decided to only take a S95 but I am picking up a small tripod, maybe a gorilla pod that I can keep in my pocket for evening shots.

Been in the parks the last few days, wow almost everyone there had a Nikon DSLR, a few rebels, a handful of prosumer (xxD to 5D) Canons. Even saw one guy in Magic Kingdom with a Optek camera strap (same as I had, and must say worked wonderfully), and a body with an L lens that looked like he might be a regular here. I had an assignment of shooting Niece's Bippity Boppity Boop Makeover and Princess breakfast, the bulk of which I ended up using the 50 1.4 for (though the 70-200 f4 and the 16-35 2.8 did get use and disred images from each. Then wandering the parks I pretty exclusively used the 16-35 2.8 all on the 7D. Memory cards went long before the batteries and having the laptop in the car, and good parking for being there early made midday transfers possible. I did end up leaving the bag behind removing the grip and just dedicating a pocket for my spare battery and memory cards, it worked out well, never felt heavy, coasters it sat with my girlfriend at the exit. I did follow this thread over the last few months, and am glad I can now contribute a little bit of info to it.
