Young Golden Eagle

Spotted in our village today, the local ranger said it and another young eagle had recently flown the nest and were lazing about in the warm winter sunshine.

Yup, not an Eagle. Surprised a Ranger would give you a bad ID.

The Ranger still gave you the wrong ID. What you have is a photo of a hawk. Look at the illustrations on the link you provided and then look at the chest of the bird in your shots. Not even close to being the same. Eagles don't get that pattern on their chest.

This is a picture of a Golden Eagle that was taken in Scotland, which looks basically the same as the Golden Eagles here in the U.S.:
