Gotta wait for it though "The new firmware update will be available, at no charge, in April 2013 from the Canon U.S.A. website "

Yeh. F8 makes the 5DIII a more attractive wildllife prospect but without red it is a bit dead.

Looking forward to this. It will be interesting to see how AF performs with the 100-400L or 400 f/5.6L on a 1.4x III. This is going to be a nice update and even though it's going to take a few months for the update to be released, I really appreciate the advanced announcement.

I am kind of excited for the f/8 focus... Tempts me to go buy a 400mm f/5.6 now and use a 1.4x on it.

As far as the red illumination, I never had a problem yet using my camera in the dark in servo so it does not really matter to me that much. But they really should give that option if the 1Dx has it. Makes no sense not to include it.

I said this about the 1Dx firmware update and I'll say it again...had they done this BEFORE putting the camera on the market, I wonder how many sales they could have made (a lot of people went Nikon specifically because the newest Canons lacked f8)...

Sounds like a great update. But... April? That is just ridiculous! I can't believe they are serious about announcing an update and then saying it'll be six months before it is available.

The AF point update NEEDS to happen. It's getting really old.

Perhaps they calculated what it would have cost them had they delayed to get that in before launch and made the decision based on that.

Interesting. A "lot of people"? How do you know this? How many are "a lot"? The fact that they're making the announcement well in advance of the release does suggest that there is a sales concern for Canon lurking in there.
