I have actually noticed that the 5Dii is much cheaper than the Nikon D600 in the states, whereas over here they are about the same price, give or take.

I recently took that plunge and purchased 5dmkii 24-105 combo and I can assure you that you will never look back with the kind of photography you are taking. You say that you are not sure if your work calls for it, well if you are in this little hobby/career for the long haul, which it looks like you are, why not invest in yourself and do it big time.
You have the passion, which you certainly can see by your site, make it a long term investment over a few years, that way it will not hurt as much and the quicker you perfect your art and start earning, then the quicker it will pay off.

As for your flash, try this link for downloadable Pdfs for the Vivitar.

Hope it helps!:)

Get a 5D classic if money is a concern. My wedding was shot on one. You don't really need the extra features (20 MP and video) of the 5DII for portrait and wedding.

Thank you WithJustAClick for the link you provided, the material is very helpful! I appreciate your advice and will take it to heart. I have decided to upgrade the lens first to the 85mm f/2.8 and will wait until after the tax season to address the body. I'm currently working as a freelancer (first time) and I'm not sure how much I'll get hit for so I'm saving as much as I can away just in case. I have a shoot this weekend and will break in the new lens and see how we get along.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and suggestions. I really appreciate your time and can walk away with a clearer mind set :-D

I'm in more or less the same situation as the OP, so this thread was definitely helpful!

Worth noting that the 5DII just dropped another $100 at Amazon, B&H, and probably others.

LOL, I clicked on this thread from that title. Thats exactly why I decided to sell my 5D2 before the price drops to $200, haha. Of course, I'm planning to upgrade.

I'll buck the 5Dc comments, if anything, consider trading in all your gear towards the 5D2 and a decent lens if you feel the need to jump now.

Otherwise, as already posted, sit back and wait. Wedding season should be over, so you've got awhile to wait, save, and look for bargins.

you have an eye for beauty and vision, please do us all a favour and go ahead with your purchase; besides, I'm pretty sure you've been a good girl all this year so Santa should get you something real nice this time.
I think you should go down the wedding path for certain, as you'll make some people seriously happy with your creations :)

It goes to show I've been on Reddit for a tad too long.

I am definitely keep an eye on the prices! I would like to purchase new if possible, but I'm not opposed to a refurbished or used model.

Thank you for your kind words.
I will do the occasional wedding, but I know for certain that it is not something I would commit 100% to... unless there themed weddings of a gothic or steampunk nature.

Thank you all for the updates and suggestions - I really appreciate it!

I am well aware of this fact. It is constantly on my mind and another consideration for my issue. I don't do many weddings, having only been hired for 3 during college. I am more-so interested in portraiture and editorial/magazine work.
