Thanks. This little series will be very budget & time constrained.... The BG happens to be the blinds on the french doors...... They are patterned slightly & you can see where they overlap

The issue with light meters is they can't make a creative decision for you. That is up to the photographer

What piece of equipment can make creative decision for you? A meter is a tool just like a camera, or a lens, or a light.

Its not a creative decision. Its rote programming. Creativity requires a conscious choice.

In photography, one of the choices in making a photo the way you want it is the DOF. The decision as to the aperture controls that. If the camera makes the decision, it is affecting, very obviously, the way the image looks. Thus, it is making creative decisions as to the way the image ends up. You might not like why or how it makes that decision, but that's entirely beside the point.

But creativity requires human (or perhaps animal input). The machine by itself can not make a creative decision. It can make a programmed decision based on factors that impact an image, but there is no creativity involved.

Oddly enough, a lot of human-controlled shots seem to fall in that category ("no creativity involved") also.
