Thanks Ricardo ... a little bit of scrambling over the rocks. Probably 25 minutes above where I parked on the road.

I started researching this lens. My thoughts are selling off my sigma 150-500 and maybe picking this up used from Adorama. I haven't been able to use my sigma to any affect except from some close up shots, meaning within 30' or so. That and thing weighs a ton lol. I read above about this lens being noisy. Is that right?

The IS makes a pretty loud clunk when it activates, but its normal for the older generation IS systems.

Very sharp. I mean, its not 70-200 2.8 IS II sharp, but its very good, even wide open.

if its sharper than my 150-500 I might go this route. This is 1 of the lens Im looking at, also considering fisheye and macros. Ill make a different post about that thou

Then you'll be doing it! This lens is plenty sharp in any company, and it has plenty of "snap" as well. Because all the shots you see here are reduced to 1024px on the long side it's not easy to compare, but take my word for it, it's sharp. As for the noise...the IS is a bit clunky compared to more modern lenses, but it works and the AF works fast and accurately.

Never really thought about this lens in the "Macro" category, but I tried my hand at it today and wasn't too disappointed.

Fabulous Patrick...and the photography is great too!

Took a journey south this weekend...down through the middle of the island, enjoying the spring weather!

Awesome pics.

I just reserved this as a rental for an airshow over the 100-400. They told me it is faster focusing.

Results this weekend :D
