Here's another film shot with the Fuji Velvia 100. I only intended to circulate this around facebook to our friends but the response to this one today has been fantastic, mostly the WOW factor of the Velvia saturation. I just wish I could have gone wider than 24mm to catch the top of the tree.

I saw a Nikon mount Zeiss 21mm the other day on nikoncafe.com in their for sale section, priced around $1,400 with the 82mm filter. I wasn't sure if that was a good deal or not but it looks like someone snagged it already.

To those who have bought the D800E over the regular version, would you say its worth spending $300 more to get E model? I never shoot in a studio, pretty much 100% outside during pro shoots, or just messing around at home. When out on a shoot, usually always on a tripod, but not always.

I have the E version but I never tried the D800, so I can't make a quantitative recommendation. Didn't really think much about the $300 price difference when I bought the camera. If money is tight, might as well just go with the non-E version.

However, if you change your mind later, the price will cost around $500 to have your AA filter replaced or removed by life pixel.

IF you want to try the benefits of a camera without an AA filter, try a Sony NEX 5n or NEX 7 and match it with a Zeiss 24mm f1.8. You'll be able to see the big difference in acuity and sharpness.

Now that the Nikon 14-24mm has a polarizer option, I see little reason to buy the zeiss 21mm UNLESS....

1. You want to travel lighter and don't care to give up the zoom range.

2. You care about corner sharpness at F2.8. Nothing beats the zeiss here!

I've had both, and now own the 14-24mm.

Tony, initially I wanted the E, then I hooked up with a photographer friend in Hawaii and shot her D800 for a couple of days. This was in May. Came back to Idaho in June and did a lot of reading on the differences and I went with the D800. There are some images floating around on the net comparing them, the differences I saw were so minor I saw no reason for the E - plus at the time I bought they were in short supply.

My Nikon d800 that shoots both FX and DX mode will start to diffract at the same aperture.

At 36 megapixels full frame, the diffraction limit starts at around F9.

Shooting in DX mode at around 15 megapixels the diffraction limit is still F9.

Maybe we are saying the same thing. Usually the pixel density in DX cameras are higher than Full frame, so we usually see the effects of diffraction sooner in DX cameras vs Full frame cameras.

I never resize for web. Zenfolio does that for me. If you want full rez, I can upload a gallery for download.

It's all good. I have a Zess 21 ZF.2 and Zeiss 25 ZF.2. Next is the 15 ZF.2.

The sky is so blue. It looks like you dialed the CPL to max!

I wasn't using a CPL! UV only. Funny you mention the sky, a lot of people complain the Velvia makes blue sky purple. I've found this to be the case with poor processing but when done right it's just a vivid blue. Also this shot was done in the morning with the sun at my back and the angle of light really makes a difference in color, shots later in the day with the sun high in the sky weren't so vivid.

Hehe! Jk. I've seen Velvia samples like this.

Well, it was my last Velvia. Interestingly Kodak Elite Chrome comes very close and is half the price. Unless I have a good reason I won't be buying any more Velvia and wouldn't have used it for these shot if it wasn't seriously expired.
