i wonder what the prices end up at...i'm guessing $1200 for the zoom...$1,000 for the 35f2IS...

Based on Canon's latest activities, I'd say that's a dream. More like $1800/$1800.

Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC and not the mothership.

Of course if it were Canon who came out with that people would **** and moan about the union bokeh not-as-sharp corners. People just hate Canon.

the 24-70 f/4 is going to replace the 24-105 f/4 so will be similar priced.

Just like how the 24-70mm MII is similarly priced to the MKI...

I think a lens like this can be a success if priced in the 500's. The 24-105 has a lot of range, and sells for 7-800, so a lens like this needs to sell for a bit less. I dont think it would sit well for a lot of people if canon decides to jack up the price over 1K for this, considering the 24-105 being an option. 35 F2 IS sounds like it would be sweet if priced well.

I think the initial prices posted are canon rumors.com were someone dreaming...$849, and $750 for a rumored 50mm 1.4IS....

What? Is that in USD?
7-800 for the 24-105 would be a decent used price, it goes for around $900 on a refurb and 1150 MSRP. I can easily see Canon tacking on a solid $200 or greater on the MSRP for an updated version, just for the sake of it being new.

500USD is completely out of the question.

edit: I should say I'm making this on the assumption that the 24-105 will be discontinued in favor of the 24-70 f/4. Time will tell if that's the case, but it seems plausible to me.

Lol, the pricing rumor is now $1800 for the 24-70mm f4 IS.

Yeah, if true, good luck with that, Canon...good luck with that. lol

I'd think it'd be around 1300, but who knows.

People already **** about that. People just hate onion bokeh and not-as-sharp corners. But it has stabilization and stabilization is pretty damned useful.

Still too much for such an unattractive aperture and range combination.

If that min focusing distance and max mag are correct (which I have a very hard time believing), this lens could be pretty amazing. I'd still be butt hurt about their choice to chop 35mm off the end, but upgraded optics, IS, coatings (presumably), and macro ability combine to make this pretty attractive. Guess we'll see what rumors make it to the final announcement.

The N1k0n 24-85 VR is $600 and it has variable aperture and is not even as good as the 24-105L optically.

I can't imagine the brand new Canon will be any less than $1k retail...

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!
