Putting a faster lens on the G1X would result in a much bigger lens. I'd say that out of everything that the G1X offers, the lens is probably the star performer. Nic - flickr photostream

Totally agree, Canon have got the balance right. Lucky Penguin is quie right a fast lens on a big sensor usually means a bigger lens and you lose the definition compact camera. Nov 08, 2012 12:40 | #672 I took a couple of shots in this woodland area with both the G1x and 5d mk111, this G1x shot came pretty close to the 5D on image quality. ![]() FairyGlen3AutumnG1x ![]() ![]() Been shooting Jpeg for 6 months (G1x), now switched over to RAW, bit more detail in the foliage, not much processing done on this one, just fantastic light this particular late afternoon. Nov 09, 2012 11:30 | #673 This was a big test for the G1x today, dark and very wet with lots of black to white contrast. Didn't seem any trouble focussing in the low light. ![]() ScalaberAutumnG1x ![]() ![]() Canon 5D mk3, 50mm 1.4, 17-40L, 70-200L, 100-400L, Canon 100L macro, Canon 2 x G1X, Speedliite 430 EX all supported by Gitzo and Benro.

You've nailed it for exposure and focus, great amount of textured detail. The people on the top gives just shows the scale of the place, is this on the North Coast of Ireland.
