I've been a long-time lurker on these pages and have finally mustered the fortitude to post a photo for your critique. Brutal honesty, please...I really want to learn. This is a photo I took recently of my nephew & his girlfriend. I used a Canon 580EXii speedlight mounted on a stand with a white, shoot-through umbrella (Off camera flash) triggered with Pixel King wireless transmitter & reciever. Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, & flash output where set manually. Thanks upfront for your critique & advice.

Both seem out of focus, and neither person appears to be enjoying their time in front of the camera. Reflection in his glasses in pic one is also a distraction. In both pics, the lady is facing straight in to the camera, making her appear heavier than she actually is. Two nice settings/backgrounds, with good potential.

I like 2, in 1 I would had him where she is and her where he is standing, better contrast with the background

Yeah I agree. Other way around would have worked better.

Thanks guys....exactly what I'm hoping for. There's such an amazing amount of talent & expertise on this site....the people here have so much great advice & info.

One thing I immediately realize is I butchered the image reduction trying to keep within the specs of the Forum (first time poster excuse, I know). Does anyone have advice regarding settings in LR to reduce an image for posting to this Forum?

Great first post! I agree with the others about general posing. I would add that I would have moved them away from the background a bit to get some seperation. Also the images look a little dark on my screens. I edited for exposure and a little curves adjustment as well. take a look. the compression is horrible but you get the idea...

^agree with the edit on #1. They don't seem to fit the background also. Their dress doesn't really say "I hang out in alleys"

I like #2.

Keep posting!

yeah good edit on #1. I was thinking along the same lines with lightroom and a brush :-)

Artisticly. They don't look very happy and they are not a "Cool"couple. Other shot is much nicer and suits them more.
