In the market for a tripod so this review has really helped. Thank you!!

Oh and do you think this tripod will be fine for a 6ft tall person?

I think that it would work well for that height, yes. I am 5 ft 5inches and I need to stand a bit on tippy toes to reach it when the legs are fully extended but the center column is fully down. You would likely just have to raise the center column just a few inches to feel comfortable. There is plenty of room to spare.

can the center columm be flipped upsidedown?

Honestly Im not sure. It isnt listed as a feature and I dont see an obvious way to take it apart nicely.

Ah, another option to consider for my first tripod. I was looking at the feisol 3441T as I'm 6'0, but this is pretty close and quite a bit cheaper with anti rotational legs included.

Anyone want to try and convince me that the feisol at $414 for legs alone (+214 for a PC-40N photo clam head) is worth it over this combo (365 - haggling)?

Is that LX-5 a good head for long term use? I have a sigma 70-200 2.8 OS and 60D at the moment as my heaviest setup. That's prob. 5 lbs tops.

Here are thequick cell phone snapshots of the LX-5 plate that it comes with that I originally posted in the HB thread. Im not sure what other brand would fit this type as its very rectangular and thin. The LX-5 comes with only one plate.

FYI: imkstore has it back in stock. They didn't for a while and said it was discontinued. I bought using buy it now for $325 in case anyone wants to know. I'm having it shipped to Hong Kong which is much closer to Korea, so that may have affected the price. At worst they will reject your offer, so bid away :)

I know this helped me so I thought I would post it.

Happy Holidays!

On the lx-5 there are three knobs. The small knob controls the panning or rotation of the entire device. The two larger knobs control the bal itself. The knob with numbers is a fine tuning control. The unmarked large knob is the main tension control. Both knobs together are what clamp the ball to hold it in place. Use the large knob to quickly grab or release the ball in a single position. Use the numbered knob when you want to move the ball around to an exact spot. Basically the numbered knob is "softer" so that you can fine tune the adjustment and get an exact position. The other knob is just a fast twist to lock in an immediate position. The un marked knob also provides a stronger hold on the ball so you can use the marked knob to fine tune the exact spot you want then turn the other knob to grip the ball even harder. This is useful if you use huge lenses.

Hope that helps!

The tripod looks exactly like my Amvona/Dynatran model. I mean exactly like it. Not sure if it's necessarily all the same components and grade of CF, but they're visually identical.

Would you recommend this to someone looking for a light weight tripod setup but doesn't want to spent 1k$?

The only thing I am hesitant about is warranty + cheaply made. You have made it clear it doesn't "appear" cheap. But after using it more, can you provide any insight. I am just weary about buying non branded things on eBay, you know?

You'll love it for sure. Here is one of the photos that I took on the trip where my tripod and I went swimming. :)
