Yes another "Oh god Kenji's at it again" thing...
I really like what little I've seen from the Sigma 35mm f/1.4, So much so I'm about to list my 28mm f/1.8 and 35mm f/2, sell them and pick one up...
...But then a little thing starts to tug at me, Telling me its a really dumb idea to dump $900 on that type of lens for a "mere" crop SLR like the 7D, That such a lens is wasted on a cropper since I'm not using most of it, and I should suck it up and deal with the 28mm f/1.8 or buy another Sigma 30 and see if i like it more the second time..
And then I start wondering if I'm going about this wrong.. Again.. and if I'm merely throwing more money down the drain....
Lets be clear, I know what I want, What I WANT is something like my Sigmalux except wider, I want the look, but i want looser framing to it, I want something fast in the 24-35mm range with excellent bokeh and good contrast and good sharpness and I dont want to pay a fortune for it... It also has to be autofocus, my eyes and the 7D's viewfinder dont do MF very well im afraid...
Now, Of course theres a good answer to this, Dump the 7D, Go full frame, After all, That essentially accomplishes everything I want, I get my Sigmalux with wider framing... Except I am not that interested in a 5D Classic... and the 5D Mark II makes me "ehhh" because of the AF, Now granted, I dont shoot sports, But I do enjoy having off center focus points that actually work and cover a good chunk of the frame, The 5DII I'm concerned will be a lot of focus recomposing.. Which is bad... The IQ would be amazing though I'm sure.. I'm just unsure it would be enough for me
a 5DIII I dont think I can get.. even if i sold the 28mm, 35mm, 15-85 and 7D (Ok I'd maybe just MAYBE afford a 5DIII then.. With all of 3 lenses to use on it..)
And besides, I'm not unhappy with my 7D, I have a few complaints about it sure, But overall I rather like it, I know its ins and outs, its little problems.. I know how to make it work and get the most out of it (And I think I do quite well) and I do like having a bunch of features I'd be giving up (8fps is handy for insects and i like the built in wireless flash trigger) Not to mention getting rid of it for this one lens might make me have to play switcharoo to get my OTHER lenses back in line with what I like....
But then I come back to "I'm going to spend $900 to bolt a bloody fullframe 35mm lens on it" and I start feeling like I'm being stupid or throwing my money down the drain because I am "wasting" the lens by putting it on my 7D
Of course a FF camera is in my future, its just a lot farther away in the future, and I would quickly point out the 35mm f/1.4 would be on the short list of lenses I'd want on a FF body anyways... If anything I'd love it more (I like 24mm on my cropper after all)
I dunno, I've analysis paralysised myself in a hole...at this point i feel i need to do SOMETHING instead of sitting in the hole... (And yes as i said, im shooting, and im happy-ish with the results for the most part...)
