Either camera will work for you and will see a significant change in IQ.

The advantage in getting the D700 is that you can use the same battery charger, batteries and battery grip that you use with your D300s. You will have the option to get up to 8 fps with the D800 while maintaining a great 51 pt AF sensors. The price is about average.

D600 offers more MP and probably has better DR than the D700 plus it offers video and other newer features.

I think you mean with the D700, D800 doesn't get 8FPS, regardless.

My condolences to you. May she rest in peace.

Thanks, it wasn't unexpected but still a drag for the family.

Not all of us need that kind of burst speed. I very rarely shoot in anything but single/one shot. Considering the cost of a body compared to a small set of good lenses if I needed serious speed I would go for the D4. I've looked at D600 shots and have owned both a D700 and D800 and if the D600 had been made official when I decided to move back to Nikon the D600 would have suited my needs perfectly.

Thanks for the correction. My eye and hand coordination is not improving. :)

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G? I don't shoot portrait a ton, but at that price and what I've read about how it performs, this seems like a no-brainer.

None at all, it's a fantastic lens for the price and IMO much better than the 1.8D when it comes to AF.

Given what it sell for and how well it works its a no brainer to have one

My condolenses. My father past away last Monday.

Bad week for us. I can't travel right now being a diabetic on prednisone. The rest of the family is taking care of things, I'll probably head out there when I get clearance from the doctor at the end of the month. Maybe by then I'll feel like taking a little gear and taking some shots.

Sorry about your father. We're still waiting on the ME report, my sister passed away either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Liking that shirt choice there. Sloppy game so far, but as long as we keep forcing turnovers we've got a shot.

K6AZ, sorry to hear about your sister.
