This is my first official video and I am not 100% satisfied with the outcome, but I am slowly learning. I mostly do photography but cinematography is something I definitely want to take on. This doesnt have much of a story / conflict , more of just a show / promotion video. Let me know what you guys think and I would greatly appreciate any criticism.

For a first video that was extremely good. Some really nice angles in there, obviously as a result of your photography background.

It was a bit repetitive and a shame the only bit of moving car was obscured by unnecessary cleverness but otherwise a solid job IMHO.

Good job! What kind of slider & stabilizer did you use?

I thought it was very good. However, I agree with John; I thought that a few of the slide shots were somewhat repetitive and I'd like to see a few more shots of the car moving/taking off.

What equipment did you use when making this?

nice job. i agree on the repetitiveness on a few of the camera moves and the glidecam move seemed very out of place in a video that is almost all sliding shots. its a nice collection of shots but the video really lacks the cars in motion. i think when the music picked up is where shots of the cars driving around would be perfect with some car mount shots and maybe a little crane work, i know you probably didnt have those rigs but thats what i would have used for some more variety in the types of camera moves

I can't say I liked it as much as some do. The leaf on the pavement didn't do it for me. I also can notice the slider stops. You should have faded it before the hard stop. The music didn't seem to work for me. Maybe use Twixtor on some of the slider and glidecam shot. It would give a nice slow, smooth depth as some of the slider shots seems to be in a hurry.

Thanks for all the comments and criticism guys, I appreciate it! Keep em coming!

I have some answers and agree with most of you on the crits..
1. As I was editing the video I strongly felt I needed some moving shots of the cars for it to feel complete. Sadly, at the time we didnt have an extra car and driver so I had to work with what I had. I am definitely adding some rolling shots in my next video. What do you guys suggest is the best way to get smooth car to car shots without a crane?

2. I noticed the repetitveness and took note of that so i hope to get some more variety of interior shots and more angles.

3. thanks for the Twixtor recommendation, I agree with you and the feeling of rushed slider shots, wish I would have slided a bit more slowly.

4. Gear used was : 5d mkII , 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 17-40 L , Konova Slider and Slik tripod with ballhead.
I really need a pan/tilt head.

To be fair here is my video I made for a friend. Though there are a few things I would have done different such as the use of a wide lens on the slider and steadicam and also speed up the slo-mo a little bit more.

This one is one of the best Promo video I've ever seen. The music is so energetic and you can feel the highs and lows.

For your first auto video, I'd say it was very well done, however there is always room for improvement :).
Music didn't really go with the location/style
It was overall very jittery with some of the slider and pan/tilt movements
Very repetitive, same shots over an over, try mixing up the angles and types of shots(slider,static,crane,steadycam...etc)
Needs more action, these cars look great but they would look better moving!

Not saying I'm any better but take a look at some of my videos and maybe pick up a few things to use, look at my first couple videos then take a look at my last one and its easy to see where the improvements are, try to see what I did to make them better and then apply those same principles to your videos. The best way to get better is just keep doing it! keep posting on here and getting feedback and you will start to get better. Every time I do a video I think the last one was terrible, each video I do teaches more and more on how I can improve and its a great tool to utilize.

Weave I like #2 a lot better than #1. The first one the music gave my speakers a raspy feedback maybe it on the audio mix.

One thing I wish you could have done is to continue the fly-by on the vehicle's back rounding it out at the corner at 0:45 instead of stopping almost half way. Also another one that I think would look cool is a to use the steadicam and be like an airstream and move towards the car and glide over the hood, windshield, and top. I think that would give the sensation of cutting through the wind and look like the car is moving but actually is stationary.

I would hope you liked number 2 better, that was my point haha. I did the first video almost a year ago to the date, and the second one I just finished up in August.
