Hi,

Rented a studio Saturday morning, and took a friend with me.
I don't have a studio (yet) or studio gear (yet!) so I rented one, I had only been in a workshop once where they pretty much set up the lights for you and then you only point&shoot.

Last night I imported them and tried to edit a couple. I'll try to do a few more today or tomorrow.

She did makeup and hair herself, I think the result would have been much better if done by a "pro" or at least someone with more experience.

Comments and suggestions are welcome, PP included!

Looks like a solid job with the lighting. The hood however is pretty bad. Now that you know a bit more what you're doing, I'd get her back in the studio and do a properly styled shoot.

Pretty bad in what way? Aesthetically? Or something technical I overlooked?
Thanks for the input!

Cheers!

The light is solid but the clothing is not working :(

Who cares about my gear?

Aesthetically. Your friend is quite good looking, and looks good with the makeup, nails, hair done, but then the hoodie clashes and looks a bit out of place.

having been chastised for commenting on a models choice of clothing i will defer on the hoodie. i dont really have a problem with it though...

my only nit is in 2, her finger is too high on her lips for the shhhh sound....

i think you nailed the lighting thats for sure and like others said, get her back in the studio for more work! 3-5 different outfits, maybe a makeup change or hair style change in between....

definitely shoot more of her!

We did a few different looks, and I will be doing it again for sure.
I'm still selecting and editing the others. These were the first and I thought I'd post them. Next time I'll try to find someone for hair&makeup alone.

The aesthetics or fashion statement of the hoodie wasn't what attracted me in these, but the way it kind of framed her face and draws attention to the eyes. But yes, the makeup and nails don't match the hood.

The hair and makeup aren't the problem...your work looks very good as well. It's the hoodie. No reason for it to be there, indoors, and doesn't work with this at all.

Impressive for your first time.

Thank you!

From all the comments I see I must work on perfecting my aesthetic senses on fashion... I will try to do so.

I've edited a couple more. They don't thrill me, I was mostly just trying out different lighting scenarios. Also even if they're not perfect, I edit them so I can practice my PP skills, also tried out a few different things on these, so let me know what you think!

Kind of a beauty shot, I have one I like more, but I edited this one to test the PP process.

Not liking the hand grabbing the arm very much.

Tried some very subtle slimming in PP on this one.

I must also practice my attention on these small details when shooting, like the hands for example. Sometimes the technical and rushing things leads me to overlooking this, and that's no good. I need to calm down and take my time.

Cheers!

Since I posted these last three, I started looking at the least one and the tilt was bugging me, so I straightened it out, at the cost of losing some of her head. But I think I prefer the eyes leveled like this. Thoughts?

Hmm, no comments on these last ones?
Well, here is one more, different PP, different hair.

That second set of photos you posted look good. I didnt like the first set due to the hood but they all look better than what I have done so far lol. Good work! That last shot looks really sharp!

the second set is really good! The B&W in #13 is very nice. Good engagement with the camera.
