it's the 35mm f/2 IS based on the following rumor (in japanese):
http://digicame-info.com …-f4l-is-usmef35mm-f2.html (external link)

Oh, I hope not. A 35/2 IS for 74,000 yen (approx. $922 / £577) replacing the ~$310 35/2? No thanks, Canon.

Yeah... Canon's pricing is getting a bit nuts...

The real reason the dark side is appealing is i feel they're offering more "Everyman" equipment...

^- Boo..still interesting tho

Ya, still interesting. Cause it looks like Canon is continuing to refresh the non-L primes. First were the 24mm and 28mm. Now 35mm. So going by focal length, next should be 50mm. There's hope. ;)

Dude, the 24-70 has a 0.2m MFD and 0.7x max magnification.
Of all people you should be the ne celebrating over this... ;)

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

If true, the 35 f/2 IS is cheaper than both the new 24 f/2.8 IS (80,000 Yen) and the 28 f/2.8 IS (76,000 Yen).

So I'd say the MSRP on it will be $750 with sale trips to ~$650 on "Canon savings days".
Not cheap by any means but half way reasonable.

See the other thread, I like the 24-70, its the kit lens the 6D should have and with that MFD I wont lie, I wouldnt mind it in my bag on a FF DSLR.... For food shots it would be amazing

But it's IS!!! ;)
Also, the 35 f/2 is a relic man... 22 year old lens from a design from the '60s...

Time for an update, no?

The farther from the flange distance, the harder to make the lens. A 35 should be cheaper than the 28, and the 50 should be the cheapest of the non-L IS primes. I await one for ~$500.

24-70L - 135L - 300/2.8L IS

Sigma's is $500. Canon's $700 minimum and $1000 if they add IS. Yes, 50 is cheaper, but it's also f1.4.
