1 and 2. Tell him to breathe out. His gut isn't big enough for him to be sucking it in like that :)

I hope that I am not being too picky but, I really like none of these portraits especially for a dating site...

1. His suit really doesn't fit and looks like it came off the rack at a discount store.

2. The bokeh is absolutely horrible! Almost looks like a mirror lens was used. Additionally I don't like male portraits in which the eyes are not pointing in the same direction as the nose. He looks shocked or angry or both...

3. To be perfectly frank, IMO, this portrait might get better action on a gay dating site than a straight site...

ouch, but noted. thanks for feedback.

Interesting thread. So far we've established that your friend might be a good Chuck Norris stand-in, would probably be a hit on gay dating sites, and that a dog can be your best friend. I'm looking forward to more! :D;)

More seriously, the comments above are spot on regarding the shots. I like the "more beer" suggestion, or something else to get him in a more natural look for him. Is there anything in particular he likes to do in his spare time? Maybe you could do some environmental portraits along those lines.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Regarding "environmental shots" --- this is my gym buddy. So of course I got him doing gym stuff. Pardon the quality---these are taken from FB.

Ugh, I dunno. These were just one day when I didn't particularly care about light or composition or anything. Just walking around with the camera for fun .___.

+1
But if you could chop the head off that last one and paste in on an earlier body - I think that last expression looks more natural and relaxed than any of the others.

This thread is really bringing home to me how tough it can be to get a decent portrait of someone who can't/won't relax in front of the camera. Have to agree that more beer, or a baseball bat to the head, may do to loosen him up.

Well, like I said, they were just fun pictures, not for the dating website. ^^ So, I get that they're not suitable for that. Just sayin' that you guys have a point about him being more comfortable actually doing stuff and not just posing.

While non of the shots are bad I don't think the first two shots fit the context of the shoot and what you are wanting to portray. I would think for a dating website you would want images that make the person seem approachable and fun to be around. And I just don't get that from these.

I don't like the idea of a shoot for a dating website, especially for a guy.

That said, I would lose the suit completely.

The rope between the legs is gay, seriously.
Second shot (shirtless) would be ok if he weren't facing straight on.
The third shot of the first 3 was ok
First one on this page is my favorite, but it looks like he has an "I dot give a flip" attitude.

His hair doesn't match his body. It's styled like a backstreet boy but that's not exactly his generation IMO and to me that's part of the awkwardness of the pics. The dress and hair don't match him.

Looks like an alright guy who takes good care of himself. Maybe u could bring ur camera along to a place u all go and surprise him with a few candid shots. He may appear more relaxed than just posing. It's as if he's trying too hard......

These seem a bit awkward to me. Maybe a bit of cropping.
