Is my camera decent for shooting sports? I really cant afford a MarkII just yet. I normally shoot weddings but want to get into shooting youth sports. Any thoughts on the 50D and shooting football, soccer, basketball, and baseball?

If you are shooting at night under iffy lighting it is going to be difficult. I just retired my 50D this September. I still have it for if I want a remote camera or just a spare body.

yeah, 2500 was okay in decent light... I wasn't really gung ho on the AF tracking either. Seemed a little off compared to my 1 series digital bodies. Though it really isn't fair to expect the 50D to hold up against a 1D mark III I guess.

8000 looks really good too... I find myself shooting at levels I never thought I would be able too just 2 months ago.

I shoot with a 50D and it is a good camera for sports (take a look at my 24Hrs of Le Mans 2012 post in this sports thread). But i'm looking for a 7D now, a little bit better and not as expensive as a MarkII or III.

Always glass before body. I'd get a 300 2.8 or 400 2.8 before upgrading the body.

I have a 40D
is the 50D that much better?
or I just suck with my 40

I can get a 50D for a lot less than a 7D
is the extra worth it?

I shoot a 50D at up to ISO3200 along with my 1D MkIV at higher ISO. For basketball I put the faster lens on the 50D and it works great. I'd say, no problem especially as you get started.

I was in the same boat, went from 40D, 50D not much of a change.
A year later picked up a used 7D now you will see a change.
but just this year went to a used 1Dmkiii and seen a BIG BIG change in my photography.
If you have the extra $$$ make the jump, that is where you are headed anyway. I took small step upgrade when I should of went straight to the 1Dmkiii... But now I have the 7D and 1D to shoot with...
The 7D is a great camera too. Are you making any $$$ from your sport shooting? If you upgrade you will make more money, more money then want more and better gear.... LOL

I used to use just a 50D and got pretty good results with a 70-200mm. Now I have a 1DmkIII and use the 50D as a remote. Frame rate on 50D isn't quite as fast as a 1D and the 1.3x seems to improve shots. For the money its fine.

That'll be wroclawianie - Dunno what he does, but I never got anywhere near his quality, must be the lower league lighting ...
