a couple of (cropped) shots from me. 100-400mm with 1.4x TC attached. Must say the 1D autofocus with this combo made life a whole heap easier than I was expecting.

thanks - I cobbled together a Baader filter between two UV filters as per hollis_f's patent pending design (see: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1144245 )

sheet of 160mm x 160mm filter material cost $28 off trademe so quite a cheap project really (one of the UV filters was found in my box of rarely-if-ever-accessed photography bits, the other cost $12)

in my opinon, there is nothing artistic about these shots. next time, try using a scenery in the shot to add to the ambiance.

What are you talking about?

There are huge, snow covered mountains on either side of the sun right there...you may not be able to see them because of the dark filters...;)

one of 'em erupted today, so there's less snow than you'd expect! ;)

Yeah, i see that...

was gonna go for a drive up the hills to see if i could get a shot of the smoke plume, but apparently it didn't amount to much...

Bet the guys who were filming 800m away crapped themselves though...the guy being interviewed on the news by phone sounded like he still had the shakes...;)
