FWIW, the dial on the camera back is referred to as the Quick Control Dial. The dial controls different aspects, depending on shooting mode selected.

I thought you were talking about the Main Dial, which is on the top, right of the body. In either case, Canon has repaired worn dials for us. It's been a few years and I can't recall the cost.

I'd suggest you have the Dial replaced. These things don't get better with time.

yep I reset all the settings and such. Works fine. IT was just a one moment thing..praying it doesnt happen again.

These things have quite a bit of software inside and sometimes it goes off the rails. A one time occurrence I would not yet panic. If it happens again, then it's time to do a bit more analysis. If it happens all the time, then panic.

do they replace them without warranty? I understand having to pay more.

I hear ya man Hope all goes well from now.

Happened to me once on the 60D. Read in another forum pushing the DOF preview button under the lens. Seemed to work for me (but it could also have been the combo of resetting, swapping lens etc).

Yeah... these were both out of warranty situations. Wish I could recall the cost, sorry!

Not sure about the 5D2, but I've had this happen to my T1i and 60D. It only happened when I used the grip with "AA" batteries, and they got low. They still registered 3/4 or so on the battery meter. When mine did that, they still functioned just fine in "P" and "GREEN BOX". I just couldn't use the front wheel.
If that is what is happening to you, it may be low "AA" batteries. Or maybe an old-tired LP-E6.

I've had similar issues in the past and have always shrugged it off as being "one of those things" that any electronic kit sends to try me from time to time. These things are just too complex for their own good sometimes.
