It's probably not going to make you a better photographer. But if you can afford it and a new camera will make you happy then go for it.

At my age all I have left is a big dick :D...not photographic ability. Oh, and too much money.

Jim...we just passed by your area last month ....well at least on the other road north...318. I drive a Prius so wanted to test it against the road of the Silver State Classic. (They should be asceered.) Your way is longer from L.V. But I'd love to live where you do ...I love Nevada and love the desert. Those desert shots, and seascapes off cruiseships are what I do.

Next time we're down you way, Jan/2013, I'll come the long way and drop in. Ya got lots of Bourbon and loose women? Damn...I forgot, my wife will be along. So double the booze.. And triple the loose women.

Based on all the great advice here and too much money ...I've decided to get one. B & H? Or?

5D3 trumps the 2 in autofocus. Noise is slightly improved. Really, the 5D2 is perfectly capable of doing most photography. It will be a bit more inconvenient to use but that just means you as the photographer will have to put in more effort.

I got the 5D2 because I'm still building up my collection of prime lenses. And the 5D2 doesn't fall short on what I like to shoot.

i got both and honestly the 3 is way better than the 2. heres what i think. the 61 af is far superior. focusing speed is also better. there are more features like hdr, raw processing, multiple shots, dual card slots. even the menu layout is alittle bit easier to navigate because their grouped better. the burst rate of 6 is an upgrade and 100% viewfinder is pretty cool. iso range is totally awesome.

well everybody knows the specs of the 2 but for me the 3 is a totally different camera, in a better way and worth the upgrade, keep ur 5d2 battery, same battery for the 3. hopefully i can answer in question u guys have... i was on the fence for awhile but decided to jump in.

The bottom line for me is the MKIII has much better auto focus. If every shot matters than this feature is reason alone to get it. The better high ISO performance is just icing. I'm still planning to keep my MKII as strictly a backup camera for landscape and still. The MKIII will be used for everything else. Also if you do any weddings or events, the autofocus will be a HUGE plus.

Going to jump, huh? B&H is great, so is Amazon. If anything is amiss, returns are SO easy via Amazon.

But his avatar says he is from "Eastern Washington". Isn't Amazon in Seattle? If so, he would have to pay tax through Amazon. Better to go with B&H or Adorama.

Good point. Amazon will start charging sales tax here in Nevada come January of 2014. Rats!

Amazon will be charging sales tax in other states as well, they are going to lose camera sales to B&H and Adorama

They started charging here in Texas in July. Used to be my favorite site for photo gear. Not any more.

Probably any state where Amazon has a "physical presence", and they have a LOT of distribution centers.

I just purchased a 5D MK III off craigslist for an extremely low price and now I need to decide if I resell it and use the profit towards the 135 L I have been lusting after or sell my 5D MK II and keep the MK III. I have only had it since last night and have been playing with it and find the menus a little more confusing than the MK II. I'm sure it's just a question of getting use to it, although I don't remember being confused with the MK II. I wish it was summer so I would have more opportunity to put it through some testing.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I didn't get back earlier.

I pay sales tax wherever I buy it. I'm not going to get into the why on here but I do.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon...I like it and as someone said...easy return. I'm still "kinda" waiting to see if Costco will sell it ... I bought my ll through them and no one beats their return policy. So far I see they're now carrying the Nikon D600 FF so it's close but no cigar.

I'm going to give Costco another week or so then order it from B&H probably...I see they have some extras included.

Thanks again smart people.

This is a great thread. All us older, but not yet old folks have to stick together, I am 56. I too am waiting to make a move on a MkII, but I set a 2014 date. I'm hoping I can stick to that date, but on the other hand my 40d will be 5 years old, and if the MkIII price drops to the price range I set, I can get the MkIII in good concience. Like several have said, for me, it's not about the money, I can afford it. but I have to have some self set limit's or I'd go out of control. -rick

Get the Mark III

The pictures are all in focus.
I mean, like all of them.
That's why the IQ is better.
Some of the II shots are slightly OOF and it doesn't hit on every shot like the II does.

The IQ is better too.
