So since I decided to upgrade to full frame & I recently sold my 60D so I can fund the new 6D that's coming next month. I have read so many good/bad things about the 6D and I do think the wifi feature is cool and I can see myself using it. But with that said I decided to just check out the 5d MK III. Boy was that a mistake! it is a crazy tool to have and I keep telling myself that it might just be "too much of a camera". Now I can’t figure out if I should go all out for it or still wait for the 6D.

So I see it like this from a local store they have
Price for 5D MK III kit $3599.99 or Body only $2899.99
Pre-order price for 6D kit $2899.99

I love to take pictures of many different things. I have done some portraits, family pics, birthdays, my friends children and street photography.

****NOTE***I was given a warning by my wife that whatever I get I can't be upgrading every time a new product comes out. I totally understand so I need to know should I get the 6D save some $$ or get the 5D MK III and be set for a long time.

***Lens-I only have are the 50mm f/1.4 and my dad gave me his old EF-28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 m1 (I think that’s what it’s called).

Sit tight for 2 months. By then POTN will be full of first hand opinions on the 6D and you would be able to get your hands on one as well. Then, make an informed decision on 6D vs. 5D3.

If you read the first part he sold his 60D, what good will glass do without a camera? :D

OP you can find the 5DM3 body for $100 less online and probably wont have to pay sales tax. If that will help with the leaning. There's also wireless SD cards if you want the wifi.

I did have a 24-105mm F/4 but I returned it thinking I'll just get it again in the 6d kit.

Someone mentioned this in another thread, only issue I have is that darn AF on the mark3 is was so sweet!

Question-if I go with a mark 2 do you recommend used glass, new or refurb?

Wow, you sold your camera and hardly have glass? Why not turn to the DARK SIDE and get a Nikon D600?

Best of both worlds: superior AF system (compared to 6D), superior image quality (compared to *anything* Canon).

How much money can you actually spend right now? If getting the 5D3 means that you cannot have any lenses beyond the 50/1.4 and that crappy 28-80 then it is not within your budget and you should be looking at something cheaper with a better lens.

Go for the 5D3 :) My mentality was I would be set for a long time as well. It's a heck of a camera.

I was at a photo expo (Exposure) this past weekend. First time going (first time it came to my city), it was amazing. I went to the Canon booth because I knew they were bringing a 6D, and I was curious. It happened to be sitting right next to a 5D3 on display (I had mine around my neck though). Held it for five minutes, toyed at the menus and looked through the view finder (couldn't take photos). It's a smaller body - not by a lot but it is smaller (width), and a bit lighter (but my 5D3 is gripped so I can't really remember what it used to feel like, now that Im so used to it.). Feels pretty good in the hand, but it doesn't scream "hefty" like the 5D's do. Menu system is slightly different. Same basic layout BUT they appeared to break it down into even more tabs - rather than using the sub-tabs that the 5D3/1DX features (which I find speeds up the time spent going through tabs to get where you want to go). This would get annoying to me fast, personally. After using the AF system of the 5D3 the AF points in the viewfinder of the 6D was disappointing to me, and clustered in the centre. Just my basic first impressions as I didn't hang around long, I wanted to check out the rest of the expo.

The 6D will probably drop in price faster than the 5D3 after its release though, but that would mean remaining cameraless for a few more months. I know there is a lot of hate for it, but it isn't even released yet so no one can say a lick about its actual performance in the real world. So you could wait a bit to see how it is recieved after its release, or you could buy the 5D3 :) Don't be concerned with the learning curve (you mentioned being worried that it is too much camera). I made the jump from a T2i. The 5D3 just felt so right, haha
