What is the warranty on lens? I thought Canon is 3, Sigma 5 yrs.

Canon gives a whopping 12months on a new lens, 90 days on refurbs.

My 70-200 is fine without MA, but it seems I need +10 with the 2x TC... still testing.

I had mentioned before that I sent my 70-200 for calibration and was waiting on a response. Well, just got a call this morning from Canon asking me to send it the camera body as well because apparently they are getting mixed results when switching between several of their camera bodies. Not sure how I feel about my copy of this lens right now

Canon recommends 50x the focal length. Ie. 200mm x 50 = 10,000mm = 33ft

Yeah, and after seeing how Canon recommends to perform micro adjustment, I think it's a bit silly and cumbersome. I think 25x focal length should be ok. (16ft)

Having recently used LensAlign to MA a friend's D4 with a 70-200, we found no difference when setting the alignment tool at 8-10ft or when it was at 25ft.

OT but how do you find the image quality and AF speed with the 2x?

I'm almost afraid to test mine. It takes beautiful, sharp pictures and I've never noticed anything out of focus that I wanted in focus so I don't think I want to drive myself crazy by checking it! Is that...crazy?

nope. i don't test any of my lenses or look for dust. if i'm not happy with a lens i send it in for service and let canon deal with it.

Hummm.
If this is fault a of manufacturer from day one, yet fault of user not to realize its presence and 3 year warranty is over, now it is buyers problem to pay!

most of these lenses are within acceptable tolerances. so "fault" isn't the word i'd use.
