I've the 5d mkii+7D combo, for me works great, for my work it's perfect to have a second body, depends on your shooting-
The Mark III is a great camera, outstanding AF, great video features.
The Mark II is still a great camera, the AF not so great, coming from a 7D you'll notice it very much, for me just center point and recomposing.

As I said if you need a second body keep the 7D and wait for the 6D, if not go for the MARK III, and sell your 15-85mm and buy a 24-105, is a great lens for video and a greal walk around.

I believe the af on the 5d3 is more customizable than the 7d. I don't believe its faster. If i paid 3 grand for one it may make me believe. I am not saying I am right, but what i think. By the way i would love a 5d 3, so not putting it down

The 5D3 AF engine is the same as the 1DX. It is significantly better than the 7D AF in every way. The 7D gives you two extra fps, and more reach via the crop sensor. That is it.

I just sold my 1D3 to a 7D owner ... because he wanted better AF. The 1DX/5D3 is two generations of 1D series AF better than the 1D3.

But in real use...how much is the 5D3 AF improved over the 7D? I don't care about 1D and generations...how about real photography.

5D III if I have to choose. I dont like 5DII for it's hi ISO performance, one of main reason why I bought it. 7D.. great camera and honest I like the crop factor so I have the AF points cover the frame more evenly.

This thread has degraded.....

I would love a 5diii but.... I would rather buy more glass at the moment. Also, 2 cameras is more valuable to me at the moment than a single camera

This thread has degraded.....

Degraded? Why? The OP asked an unanswerable question, sort of like "Which color is better, red or blue?" All you can do is offer opinions. There is no one better camera for all people. Some care about AF and it's important to them. Other could care less and it doesn't enter into the equation. Some care about price and other have enough so it's not important. Some need two bodies, others just want one and so on and so on. If there was one clear cut winner we could all chime in and state "get this" and the thread could be closed, but we don't have a cleat cut winner.

When I had the 5D2 & 7D, I shot approximately 17,000 images on the 7d and 20,000 images on the 5D2. I loved shooting both cameras.

Now I have the 5D3 & 7D.
Since April, 20,000 images on the 5D3 and 300 on the 7D.

I want to shoot the 7D more, but love the image quality of the 5D3 more. As well as all the advanced features of the 5d3.

I am keeping the 7D on the hopes I may use it more, but I took it out with me the other day and I only shot 65 images...

just a few of my thoughts...

This is a stupid thread but I'll participate because... I dunno.

The 5d3 is the best of the 3 in every way, yet, it's my third choice.

5D2 would be my second choice, great camera though.

7D for me out of these three. It's the best value right now. It's a better camera than the 5D2 in every way but the sensor and many of those ways I appreciate greatly. If the 5D3 were $2k I'd have one. Not because I don't have the $3k+ for but because its not worth it. And the 6D? No thanks, I won't even consider that.

All cameras have as good af is you just use the center af point and recompose. All outer af points don't have the fast and accurate f 2.8 center af point that each camera that you mentioned has so if you have good glass you're almost always going to want to use that center af point.

With that being said I'd get a 60D and 5D2 if you're shooting anything but sports.

Use the rest of the money on good glass.

The question has been answered, the 5D3 is better than the other too options in every way but cost. Period. No matter what ef lens you list against any scenario the 5D3 will do a better job than the other two.

This is one of those questions that by asking you prove you don't have the knowledge to use the camera you're asking about. If you want to buy it and have the money to do so go for it - there, someone on the Internet justified it for you, go forth and enjoy your new camera.
