I have two cameras, 7d and a T1i. Imports into LR have been without issue for years. All of a sudden my files from the Rebel are not importing correctly- They look fine until I hit import, then the file size changes (by about 3mb) and I get a large monochrome jpeg preview??

After a night of head scratching, as near as I can tell Lightroom is applying camera specific develop presets on import. The Raw files look normal when viewed in Explorer or Windows live view, and even in LR before I hit import. My presets folder is empty, the only thing I apply during import is a filename change and basic metadata. I tried different cards and updated the firmware, even updated LR to 3.6.

Is there another place in LR I should look for presets?

Edited to add: If I open the CR2 file in Elements it looks fine, and I've tried not converting to dng in LR but still get the same behavior.

Presets are not camera specific but defaults settings can be. Moreover it is not unusual for the DNG to be smaller than the CR2, especially if you are converting to lossy DNG.
Inspect the right side panel in the Develop module immediately after importing a T1i file with "None" set in the preset box on the Import dialog. Is the Color/B&W setting under the histogram set to B&W? That would indicate that you have set B&W as the default setting for that camera serial number. Put it back to Color, hold down ALT/OPT and click on "Reset Defaults".

tzalman- I just figured that out. I must have hit the ALT key at some point AND inadvertently clicked the set default button. Hard to believe... I went back in my catalog and opened an older file that had imported correctly (without any develop edits) and (re)set the default. All is well.

Thanks for the response, you are spot-on. I figure I just got smacked down by my own poor keyboard management. My handwriting is not much better.
