Sounds like "keyframe14" has it all figured out...

I am not sure canon keeps track of grey market vs us market via serial number.

canon seems to usually be pretty lenient on their warranty.

Not claiming to know the interpretations of any fine print or intents, but after reading the previous chatter, the thing that jumps out at me is "if these are new,in the box cameras, why would there not be a warranty card?". If I were looking to buy a new MK3, I would be leery of these. Whether Canon does or doesn't ask for a receipt or warranty card as some claim seems irrelevant, a serial # check would quickly tell them if it is grey market.

They're lenient when they want to be and there's a good chance they'll be lenient with your gray market camera.

does this come with a USA warranty?

if so it is NOT Gray Market...

being sold by an entity other than an 'authorized dealer' does NOT make it Gray Market...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

Wouldn't be that hard. I work in electronics mfg. and serial numbers formats are made to trace all this stuff.

THIS IS INTERESTING!
I posted this question on the canon forum specific to warranty service for non authorized purchase and was told:

That statement from the Canon moderator has since been removed. Meaning ?

http://forums.usa.canon.com …r-purchase/m-p/2059#U2059 (external link)

Also just to clarify for everyone. Nowhere on the warranty card OR canons website does it say that the warranty is void if you buy from a non authorized dealer.

I remember reading the statement. Its been removed becausse canon does not want to advertise that they will cover it.

ok guys stop fighting like kids.

1. canon and any other manufacturer usually insist on proof of sale to ensure that warranty and service for 1/n yrs is valid - after that standard fare for most cameras bought off stores/online/any other channel.
2. the serial number is traceable to lots - you can buy a camera off a authorized/non-authorized dealer and still avail warranty but there is a catch - canon and other manufacturers/distributers often unload bodies to so called un-authorized dealers and buying from them, a buyer can avail standard warranty. Sometimes though from the manufacturing cycle/some where in the supply & distribution chain some lots of bodies can go missing and turn up an grey market auction sites which can be offered by so called grey market channels for less - this is where Canon or any other manufacturer does not offer warranty. A simple serial check can confirm that.

Also on a wider circle sometimes bodies from EU/Asia do not get warranty here in the US and vice versa - for e.g. back in India, a US bought Xbox does not get service (sometime a little of persuasion helps though).

Last but not the lest it all depends on the your luck and whether the service contact point follows procedure or not. hope it helps.

Taken straight from B&H:

About USA and GREY MARKET (DIRECT IMPORT) Products

Items marked "USA" are imported and/or distributed by the manufacturer or the manufacturers official licensed importer/distributor and a re warranted by them. Items marked "IMP" are imported and/or distributed by other entities and are warranted by B&H Photo-Video. "IMP" products do not qualify for manufacturers rebate programs. There is no difference in the item itself.

The "IMP" is the Grey Market item. The only difference is that the seller (B&H in this case) handles the warranty instead of Canon. If there's anything wrong with the item, you send it to the seller and not Canon.

I believe they exist because the seller can sell it lower than the "USA" version, since it no longer goes through Canon. I may be wrong though.

Nothing yet. I'm not expecting one until mid week due to holidays and all of the orders taken during the past week.

Edit:
Purchased mine at 1:03am. I am not sure how many were sold before I purchased mine.

Shipped and I'm tracking it with ETA of Friday across the coast. If I remembered correctly, after my purchase, it was about 100 sold at the time.

Now I'm debating which to sell, 5D Mk2 or the 7D.

Here is my response from them.

"Thank you for your email. Your order is approved for shipping. We have a flood of orders for this item and we are shipping them as efficiently and quickly as possible. The item will be shipping later this week.

Thank you

Mari"

By "flood" they mean "500" and by "500" they mean "a number we chose ourselves." They knew what they'd be facing.
