:-) ^^ I have shot all my surf pics with a 50D or 60D - glass is the bigger issue by far as all the xxD are more than capable in MOST situations - but I'm sure some other guys with much greater experience can weigh in here on the various bodies.

The bonus of course with the newer bodies is more MP means more room to crop and still have a decent quality/size photo when you are done.

EDIT: I'm sorry to have missed the Thanksgiving swell in So-Cal, but I'm not absentee for no reason - here's some proof of life, getting a little salt water fix here in Sevastopol, Ukraine - an old guy told me in passing the water is 10C - so 50 something degrees I guess. :-)

Pat, are most of your shots with the 1d or 1ds?

I was looking at used prices and want to go ff(maybe a 6d, but keeping the 60d) but wonder if a 1ds2 would be totally fine and double as a surf camera.

Hi Nick, most were from the 40D...and there are times I use the...

just to keep the variety of it. I like 'em all and with some good glasses it's a joy to see the results.

Thanks Jeantro...Yes, they're from the 40D click on the image and you'll see the full exif. They were shot raw and process as JPG's. Glad that you like it

Yeah, I figured your "pop" was from your sick collection of lenses......just wondered if you went ff on top of all that. I don't think it matters any with surf pics as far as ff or crop.

Super bummed to miss this weekend's incoming swell - sounds like the biggest since January for OC? Maybe discluding the Wedge anyway... Well - in other news I will be home for the APSS - planning to meet up with some of you guys there.

Big swell is on tap for all west facing beaches here in So Cal and will last throughout the weekend. Here's a couple from this morning swell down Huntington Beach...let the weekend begins :)

Shot with the beastly 400 F2.8L MKII ...on a stormy, cloudy, windy, misty, & rainy condition.

Another spot to check this weekend would be the southside of Seal Beach. It can take a west and may be a little cleaner (but smaller) than other more weather exposed breaks. Some samples below. A lot of spongers go there but there are still a few surfers. The nice part is it mostly a shorebreak, unless it's huge then it'll cloudbreak, so you don't need a super-tele as much.
