Just signed up. Love my 60D and doubt that I will ever go to FF. The fact that I am almost 70 may have a bearing on that.

wow drooling....

the 16-35 is FF compatible in case you're going that direction.

Possibly if I can get a steal price in a 5D I may try full frame.. But I realized after the fact the no IS part when I got home. Should be coming in tomorrow so I guess we'll see. Had my mind set on the 17-55 but I need to decide If full frame is in my future.. But the 16-35 2.8 seems like it would be a good all around lens

New 60D owner here, bought together with the lenses listed below. Unusual move for me, because I am a decades-long Pentax shooter. So I've got the Canon kit, and I have more than my share of B.S., so I should fit in well here. Now all I need is some pictures.

thanks marc. i will slow down with sharpening next time. i guess some shadows on her neck made it look weird. look at the original, it's there too.

haha yea it was the highlights that were really weird

for my i like subtle sharpening - you said you liked sharpening at around 50 pixels

for my editing i like sharpening at around 1.5 - 2.2 pixel radius on unsharp mask

Having some strange behavior with my Canon DPP software and thought maybe someone else has had the same problem. Haven't found much troubleshooting info on the Canon site so far...

(yammer yammer yammer)

...Previously, the edited version of the image would open properly in Canon ZoomBrowser, Easy-Photo Print, DPP, Windows Photo Viewer, Photoshop, Irfanview, Internet Explorer, or any other software I have available.

Now the images only open properly and the thumbnails only appear properly in Canon DPP. In Windows Exlorer both the thumbnails appear but both display only as the original unedited image. The original image, when opened in any other software, looks like the original. But the modified file will only open also as the original image with no changes visible, except in DPP...

(blather blather blather)

...I'm working with WinXP SP3 and haven't installed any new software recently. Please tell me that I'm overlooking something obvious here. I wouldn't be suprised if it fixed it self the next time I boot up, but I've already restarted things a couple of times today.

Ladies and gentelmen, I return to bare my soul. But I think that deep down I knew, we all knew, that my problem was the result of operator error.

The problem was in my creating the renamed file using the "Save As" function. In Canon DPP this merely saves the original jpeg AND the "recipe" used to make the modifications seperately. To save a finished, modified image you need to do a "Convert and Save" (which sounds a bit misleading as you're converting a jpeg to a jpeg??) instead of a "Save As". This would make more sense if you were converting a RAW file to a jpeg or TIFF.

So my old Windows XP computer is working just fine. And so is Canon DPP, as it turns out. And all is right in my little corner of the world and I'll be sleeping more soundly tonight.

New forum member. Have a 60D so this looks like the place to hang out. Used several DSLRs for Wedding Videography side business. Getting too old for the Saturday grind, so I’m learning photography from the ground up.
One of the things that intrigues me and would like to try my hand at is HDR. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I have seen a lot of comments other places online and it’s somewhat confusing.
The only current software I have is Photoshop CS2. Am looking for the software and the workflow to go from camera to final product. Heard about Photomatix and Lightroom used in conjunction with Photoshop, but that’s where it all gets blurry for this geezer.

Look forward to some info and hopefully a gentle shove in the right direction on my search.

Damn Cyber monday. Here goes 600$ :(

EDIT: Before you ask, I bought 2x 32Gb cards, 1x Eye-fi Pro X2 8Gb (iPad tethered shooting) and a Canon 2xIII (think it'll fit great with the 300).

And got myself the Sigmalux from the marketplace here last week.

Just received my vacation pay check...

Nice David, is there a good deal today on the 2xIII? I've kind of been wanting one, but not high on my list. :)

David - did you get that Eye-Fi card from the Amazon lightning deal? I saw it last night but woke up about 20 minutes too late to get it. Not even sure if it'd be compatible with the original iPad.

I have an Eyefi pro card, not sure if the specs have changed at all since I got it, but it works with my iPad 1st gen. just fine. Great tool to have for portraits, quickly show people how great they look and they instantly relax and take even better shots. :)

Good to know. I've been wanting to try one out but afraid it wouldn't be compatible. Everything I find is always about the iPad 2. I love tethered shooting with my MBP but sometimes it's just inconvenient to carry around and to be corded.
