I've been thinking about selling my 1D MkIV and 5D MkII, putting the funds into a 1DX.

Is this a good move do you think ? Are there any 1DX users in the house ? Would really love some feedback...

I also wanted to have a look at the EF200-400m f/4 X1.4. I know they used them at the Olympics, so not sure why not released yet...

Thanks...

I see you are a sports shooter? (Just looked at your website)

Whilst the 1DX is a hell of a machine, I wouldn't recommend selling two bodies and going to only one. Two bodies are just so much more useful, convenient. If you can't sell the 5D II and pony up the rest of the cash for a 1DX, I would recommend selling/trading the 5D II for a 1D III or another 1D IV.

If you shoot more than just sports and desire something full frame, then maybe look at upgrading the 5D II to a 5D III. The 5D III is certainly a capable second body for sports and even more useful for about anything else.

While I have a 1DX and absolutely love it, no way I would be without a second body.

I agree with the sentiments above, excellent as the 1Dx is, I wouldn't sacrifice a two body setup to get one.

I would get rid of both and just get a 1dx, because the 1dx is so big, it's hard to carry more than one body at a time, so my 1dm4 and 5dm2 just gather dust in their bags anyway

Unless your on a paid shoot, then I would use the 1dm4 as the backup and dump the 5dm2.

If you get the 1dx, it would be rare to use the other cameras if you had a choice.

If you sell both and get the 1DX, you can always rent another body for paid shoots.

I have a 1D mkIV and have just bought a 5D mk3 rather than selling it for a 1DX, I really wanted it but thought 2 bodies would be beneficial.

Thanks Guys for all of your thoughts... I might have to reconsider my options.

I very much like the 1D MkIV but the reason I was thinking of changing was purely for noise. The 5D MkII is way better then the 1D4 in that respect, so changing to the 1DX was my first thought. However, it is more sensible as suggested to have two bodies, so may consider the 5D MkIII, and sell the 5D MkII. Only problem I see with that is the resale on the MkII's now is very low, since you can buy a new one for around the $15/1600 dollar mark.... so how much will I get for my MkII + Grip ? Are the batteries on the MkIII different to the MkII ?

Thanks for your input, very much appreciated...

Bazza.

I'm not really an advocate of renting bodies or lenses for some reason, I def think owning two bodies would be the way to go...

Hmm, food for thought !! Is the image quality of the 1DX as good as the 5D MkIII I wonder, or at least as good as the 5D MkII ?

Does the 1DX have exactly the same sensor as the 5D MkIII ? does anyone know ?

5D II and 5D III use the same lp-e6 batteries.

The 1DX and 5D III are not the same sensor. 18mp vs 22mp

To my eyes, owning both, image quality is pretty much identical at lower iso's. The 1DX has a bit better high iso handling.

5dmk2 better than 1dmk4?

I would upgrade from 5dmk2 to 5dmk3 and keep 1dm4. Two bodies are almost must for sports.

someone mentioned weight, what weight? Bodies weight nothing compared to some of the lenses.:-)

Yeah, I'm not too concerned with weight issue, but definitely the 5D MkII IQ is better than the 1D MkIV, no doubt about it. Although, you couldn't compare the two cameras in any other way obviously.... probably has something to do with being a full frame sensor compared to 1.3 crop....

I would upgrade the 5D2 to the 5D3 and keep the 1D4. I like having a smaller body for my 2nd camera.

My 5D2 & 24-105 are almost always with me. I also like the 1.3 crop for wildlife.

Hmmmm. I think that isn't that great of a trade. The 1DX is a beast but the 1D4 isn't shabby either nor is the 5D2. I would keep two bodies since having two bodies is always advantageous to one imo.
