So my first time out with the tripod, I lost the tip of a leg (aka foot).
Stupid Gitzo! I heard this happens often. And to me it seems unacceptable.

Should I go through all the hassle with warranties or should I jus order a new tip? Where?

What doies one do in these situations?

Order a Gitzo mono pod foot from fleabay or all 3 for a tripod if you think you may forget to tighten them up properly!

I'd like to see you try and get one out of Gitzo - I'm wondering if they've improved their customer service.

Lost tip not likely to be replace by any company as a 'warranty' covered item, which covers manufacturing defects but not losses or damage by the owner.

Their website is designed like a cul de sac to totally discourage complaints and warranty claims. Shameful.

Wilt, I made proper use of the tripod and when i got home a piece of it had broken off and dissappeared, to me its their fault.

If you have a car and you're driving down a staright smooth street and the rim and wheel comes off, is that your fault for "loosing" the wheel?

If you think the website is shameful, you should experience how it goes when you get one of them on the phone.

The tips screw into the legs, so you can interchange them. If the tip actually broke off, leaving the threaded bolt in place, you may have a warranty claim. Similarly, in your car example, if the wheel comes off because all the lug nuts came unscrewed you and the last person to work on it are responsible. If they sheared, it would more likely be a manufacturing defect.

Dealing with the Gitzo people is much easier of you know the part number. Go to gitzospares.com (external link), identify your tripod & click on the link then download and save the parts PDF for your tripod. That should give you the foot part number.

You can download the parts diagram direct from Gitzo, too: http://www.gitzo.us/service/service+%26+repair/ (external link) and enter your tripod/monopod's model number.
